Think of the creatures of Wreclast for a moment...

You know..

I was just thinking about the tens of thousands of creatures I've killed in this game and never gave a moment's thought that perhaps I am the bad guy after all.

See, imagine your just a wandering rhoa just milling around with your family grazing off the land minding your own business. You are simply filling your bellies with lush Wreclast grub and then all of a sudden....

Boom

A bunch of people with with high-level abilities with high-level gear just mow you down, leaving in the wake a path of mortal destruction. Then, to top it off, they take and pick from you and your family things you found just grazing around. All the while you faintly hear them laugh through discord about how they one-shotted you and the term "poggers" gets thrown around as you close your eyes for the last time. (as least until your reset by a new map)

So, when your out there, blowing up hundreds of creatures to your delight, think about the ones that are only protecting their own and ask.... are you the hero you thought you were?

As someone who has actually been chased by a bull, I have ZERO EMPATHY for the rhoas! Just let me do my business and I'll be out of your way!!!

I like the parody.

Still... no. Perhaps a bit these days.
I remember, in days of yore, that those Rhoas (except the Albino Rhoa) really could ruin your day. Pretty much like anything you encountered in Wraeclast.
But the Rhoas were special in that they would charge at you from off-screen and stun you and kill you and, well, appeared at the very beginning of the game when you had no real protection.
You were pretty much the one milling around (without your family because you were exiled) minding your own business.
It was more or less (more, actually) self-defense.

Everything in Wraeclast attacks you and tries to kill you. I think the Albino Rhoa is really the only creature outside of towns that does not want to kill you. On a whole continent!

Before we are introduced to the maps device, we are just exiles, scrapping everyday just to survive. But when we finally reach the map devices, we, the exiles, become the "bad guys". We venture into maps, with noble intentions at first but ended up corrupted, drunk for powers. We slaughter hundreds of thousand native inhabitant of the maps we get into, just to fulfil our desire for power.

Sirus and his friends, was us, in Atlas of The World and War of The Atlas expansion. Pursuing Shaper and beating him, then we beat The Elder and sealing him. And then, what do we do after that ? Still venture into the atlas of the world to gain more power.

Fall of Oriath came, we pursued and beat Conquerors of The Atlas and their influences, then beat Sirus in the final fight in Oriath, but after that, what do we do ? We still venture the atlas of world, to gain more power.

Then we meet another pinnacle bosses, Maven, Eater, Sirus. And after defeating them and repelling their influences, what do we do again ? Venture even deeper and longer in the atlas of world, to gain even more power.

Before we reach the map device we are monsters driven by revenge, that destroy a civilization then murder the gods people have worshipped for ages just to get more power so we can kill the evil god we set free. We are exiles to begin with because we are criminals. At no point in this game are we "the good guys," and anything remotely positive we do is accidental.

I agree with your statements about what we become in the Atlas though. Once we are done destroying everything in our world we bring the slaughter and thirst for power into other worlds.

Killing thousands of mindless creatures to pull magical armor and weapons from their intestines is the least of our evils.
Peacefull civilised Rhoas who wear swords spears and body armor are called partisans, theres a whole section in Love and Warfare which writes them down as enemy combatants.

Besides i never met a single white peacefull Rhoa, they are all fanatics.
