DX12 actually works better than DX11 on my ancient machine now (edit: sort of...)

No advanced scientific test results here - just some general feedback based on my experience since the last big patch.

I've always been using DirectX 11 prior to this patch, since dx12 would always crash for me after about 10 seconds, and Vulcan wouldn't work at all.

After the patch, dx11 feels awful, with lots of general stuttering and 1-2 second lock-ups on each new pack. Basically unplayable. And this is AFTER I wait 1 full minute at the start of each map for the shader cache to finish doing whatever it's supposed to do. Despite all this waiting, I notice the shader cache ramping up again as every single new pack appears on my screen, corresponding with the 1-2 second screen freezes. It feels as if the dx11 shader cache just doesn't work anymore.

Today I decided in desperation to try dx12 again, and to my surprise it is a lot smoother. I don't even have to wait for the shader cache progress bar to go away before I start playing, and things are reasonably smooth regardless.

I also noticed that in dx11 the "VRAM" indicator says "N/A" (???), whereas in dX12 it actually shows a reading (usually around 1.5GB). Dunno if this is expected or not.

intel i5-4670K, NVIDIA 660TI, 16GB PC3-10700 667 MHz DDR3 RAM, Western Digital Blue SA510 2.5 SSD, Windows 10 64 bit

TLDR: I think you broke dx11, at least for my old machine, but dx12 is way better and more stable than it used to be so I forgive you

EDIT: except for lab, can't lab on dx12, wut

Tried it but unfortunately my old PC gives a complete black screen even after waiting a while. Luckily was able to revert to dx11 in the config file.

What version is your dx12?

uhhh dxdiag says the following:

Driver Name: C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_351d5a47f9f176b5\nvldumdx.dll,C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_351d5a47f9f176b5\nvldumdx.dll,C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_351d5a47f9f176b5\nvldumdx.dll,C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_351d5a47f9f176b5\nvldumdx.dll
Driver File Version: 30.00.0014.7444 (English)
Driver Version: 30.0.14.7444
DDI Version: 12
Feature Levels: 11_0,10_1,10_0,9_3,9_2,9_1
Driver Model: WDDM 2.7

doesn't modern windows auto-manage all of this these days though? I wouldn't expect anyone's directx to be out of date. good luck to you anyway.
i take it back, i repeatedly crash in lab for some reason on dx12. switching to dx11 fixes that problem and seems fine through the campaign but i cant map like this. fix game pls

i'm on dx12 atm and literally need to shut POE down between every map or reset my resolution to get it to reload textures.

the atlas tree turns into a x-mas tree when i open it

the gems tab when auto navigating to it makes the entire game eat too much LSD.

I'm trying other rendering options today though
Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.

I feel the same. Was on dx11 prior to graphics patch but the patch gave me stutters. Switching to dx12 made it a lot better, but I am still getting some stutters but it's way better than dx11.
