Game crashes loading towns (Linux)

Three days ago my game crashed & since then anytime I try load into a town on any character my game immediately crashes on the town loading screen.

Running on Linux. Tested it out on my Windows drive and it works fine there.

I validating game files & re-installed the game but the issue remains. Having a hard time finding solutions for Linux online, hoping someone here can help me out.

Same problem
Are you using steam? If so what version of proton? Have you tried a different version?
I confirm the problem.
used different versions of proton - experemental, 8.0, 7.0 - no difference
I can create a new character, but after reaching the first boss, the game crashes.
Other characters hang on the loading screen and the game crashes.

P.S. I reinstalled the game.
P.P.S. Ubuntu 22.10 kernel 5.19.0-40-generic
I am experiencing something quite similar. The crash for me happens randomly when loading new instances. For maps it happens before the portal is consumed.

The game can also shut down randomly in instances, but it was running fine until recently. For me the trigger is one of two things: an update in the later half of april, or updated Nvidia drivers (nvidia-530.41.03-5).
My specs are way overkill in all respects. That is not the issue.

Can anyone narrow it down to either the patch or the Nvidia driver? Downgrading is not possible for me atm unfortunately.
I think I've found the solution.

in library go to POE properties. Compatibility. check the box "force the use a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" and select Proton 7.0-6
After this change i can play again
Swapping to Proton 7.0-6 fixed it, awesome! I'd been running Proton Experimental up to now. Didn't think of it. Appreciate the help
Something is going on fore sure. Gaming under Fedora 37/Gnome with Nvidia drivers over here and just from one day to the next it was unusable under Proton Experimental.

Good thing about Linux is you just switch to an older Version of Proton and wait until the bug is fixed.

For me I had to switch down to Proton 7 and use Vulkan instead of DirectX11.

Running smooth again so far.
Rolling back to Proton 7 worked for me too.

I notice with Experimental or 8 I was able to load into towns using much older characters. And the ones that were crashing loaded fine on Windows.

Guessing there was a reversion in the latest Protons.

Anyone up for doing a bisect...?
