What's the best way to get good gear at level 84?
I am really new to this game and I would appreciate some help.
I am currently running Tier 8-9 maps consistently without dying but I never get any good loot at all. What's the best way to get decent gear for me right now? Do I just keep running these maps? It just seems like all the loot I get is not even close to being good. Maybe good loot doesn't start dropping until a higher tier map and I just need to keep working my way up? I have 3200 health right now which I feel is a bit low. Every time I try to do one of the Crucible nodes for my weapon I get insta melted and can't ever do them. Any info would be greatly appreciated thanks. Last bumped on Apr 21, 2023, 9:24:16 PM

Since u r new just take your time, don't rush it! U will not have a good time as a new player if u go for red maps and endgame content fast.
So advice would be just stay where u r and slowly work your way to lower red maps and if u r on trade upgrade your gear as u go, nothing big, some life nods, some hp, resists (chaos res is a must nowadays also) add damage last. If this is your 1st league being able to do high yellow and low tier reds is great accomplishment. Also u don't need 100% crucible charged to progress crucible trees, start from 20-30% and go up until u find it hard to do them then go back to the % u find easy (deathless) to do. |

Lost my hype on id stuff on the ground for ages (you know that unique it is so that no id is needed, or you know what currency for raw currency dropping)
The game many tier many base system making the loot is dog shit all the time when you are reaching end game. The good gear are usually from other people that id and put their lottery on the trade site, while you just farm raw currency to buy it. There may be some people try crafting and sell to trade site, which if accounting the time spent , not worth it This is the start of forum signature: I am not a GGG employee. The first thing to keep in mind, particularly during the white - yellow portion of maps, is that raw dropped items are rarely 'good'. Many can be workable (i.e it has the resists or suppression suffexs you want, so you cna use crafting to lock those in and then improve the prefexes or vice versa). Finding a raw undisputed upgrade from your current gear is only going to happen once every dozen maps or so generiously, and a lot of that is learning what item bases are viable for that character.
Ways to craft gear outside of just slamming alchs and chaos and crossing your fingers include carefully planned Fossils, or loads of essences. As to the Crucible, understand that anything over the 65% mark edges into 'please murder me' territory, don't be afraid to take it easy, do a 20%, see how that feels, then push up from there (note, as the ui still has information issues, if you partly charge it, then walk away, it will start the event at the charge you set it to, it desperately needed to have a 'start now' button for clarity). The 'good' gear will start appearing in reds, but keep in mind, the previous concept still exists. Gear usable for one spec only drops so often, as there's no control for what you're playing. So you might find something good (even amazing) for ten different characters, but are bricks for yours. As others have noted, tade is a common thing (your profile is private so can't see if your SSF or not), selling the 'good' stuff and buying usable upgrades. I can attest, it's not remotely necessary, it's very possible to find your own gear, but it is a slow pace, expect to measure progress over 2-3 weeks, not 2-3 days. Edit; Also, the side events like Delve and Alva can provide a source of particularly powerful items, though your ability to do them effectively can depend on your build, some character types are better or worse at these things. I personally like Heisting, and Blueprint Heists can provide some good out of the gate gear, as well as a lot of oddball items from other corners of the game. The absolute best gear tends to come out of the pinnical bosses, stuff like Eater of Worlds, Exarch, or Conquerers / Elder / Shaper events.
