Why is Dual-Wielding still part of this game?

Path of Exile has gotten so far away from dual-wield builds, GGG should just take it off the Atlas or buff the crap out of it so it can be effective again. As soon as they added Spell Suppression, Mana Efficiency & removed Dodge--I feel like dual-wield died on the battlefield. I used to love playing Duelists, but haven't even built one since defense changed so much. Almost everything that I used to make Duelist is easier & better as a Ranger now; specifically Raider.

Do us a favor GGG & find a way to make dual-wielding competitive again!! There would be a lot more build variety if Duelists had not sunk to the bottom!

Dual Wielding builds disappeared when they removed the inherent dual wielding damage bonus. The few builds remaining disappeared when they removed stat sticks. Or was it the other way around? Don't remember. And when they buffed shields a few leagues ago? Well, that was the nail in the coffin.

Sad, but true.
Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.
Well the point is why is Dual-Wielding even still on the Atlas? Either they need to find a way to make dual-wielding effective again or take it off the tree.

I quit playing Duelists when the Suppression, Mana Efficiency & defensive changes happened (sword & board). Currently tinkering with POB to see if I can make a Slayer build now that can remotely keep up with Ranger or Witch builds. I'm worried that Nightblade Support will just push me back to Ranger builds.
If they removed everything that people don't use much these days the entire bottom of the tree would probably get lopped off. Maybe things will improve one day, but even in the worst case it's no harm done, not that the thing is asking for lodging, 3 meals a day, brandy, cigar and foot massage.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

I'm not sure if TS is referring to dual-wielding or duelists.

I was disappointed they removed stat sticks, but I can imagine how difficult it could be to balance the game if they were still around now. However I'm still seeing some working DW builds, including those that don't necessary have to use The Saviour, such as dual claw Venom Gyre builds.

If your problem is regarding duelists, it must be the Gladiator, who has an identity crisis now.

Slayers are still great consideration for any elemental attack build including ranged. He still has overleech. Easy to reach crit cap on low budget.

Champion is the easiest choice for physical attack builds, or builds that don't have to crit like DoT builds, melee or ranged, simply because it got you covered defensively, allowing you to focus on offense.
I mean dualwield is supposed to be a middle ground between shield and two handed and right now it's exactly that. Before they removed the damage bonus (there is still an attack speed bonus) it was outright superior to both other choices. Nevermind statsticks that were just plain stupid. I also don't get what Duelist and dual wield have to do with each other, you can run dual wield on any class.

dw is in horrible spot because the bonus from DW is puny compared to what a shield will provide

2Hs you at least can get for huge hits and stuff like boneshatter, unique staves, etc.

dw mostly died when stat sticking died. for attack builds, weapons are important, and getting two of the same is out of the question, so only niche cases such as savior remain...

there are some edge cases such as super glass sceptres/wands builds but shields are just too freaking good

They don't have anything to do with each other. My complaint was that there are a bunch of practically useless nodes on the passive skill tree for Dual-Wield (or at best severely underused).

The only reason I brought up Duelists is because I played them all the time before the changes, & now I never play them--because Rangers are superior for everything.

My hope is they somehow buff Dual-Wield so that it can compete with Shields & Two-Handers again.
Wont happen....but they could rid of all offensive mods on shields. Have shields be pure defensive equipment. So the tradeoff for losing the shield is gaining attack power. But then it has to balance around 2H damage so 2H doesn't become obsolete.

I think another problem not mentioned yet is that now we have shields that offer some pretty offensive special effects or mods that override any potential bonuses a weapon could provide. Not even counting the defensive aspect.
Or they could create some skills or support gems that can only be used while dual-wielding, so that it doesn't affect 2-handers or shields or the tree. Just an idea, but you're probably right--it will never happen.
