Constant Crashing using DX12
This league has been a plague of crashing for me which is becoming really frustrating.
It only happens when using DX12 as I tried it with Vulkan and that remains stable but I do often get a map where my FPS seems to lock out at <80 and it becomes jittery and choppy. By entering my hideout it clears that and then I can resume as per normal. However, under DX12, as mentioned - constant crashing. I always preferred it as I get better FPS and it feels smoother but it's becoming a pain now and I can't figure it out. The game crashes at any instance, mid-map, loading an instance. Sometimes it hangs, other times it boots me to windows. Interestingly the AMD Radeon Adrenaline Software detects this crash and often closes down, and it tells me the standard Wattman encountered an error message AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Radeon RX 5700 XT (Driver 22.11.12) 36GB Crucial Ballistix CL16 RAM Win 10 - OS Build 19045.2486 All drivers are up to date and so is Windows. I have no MTX running, settings are default (except water set to low) I regularly clear the cache in the windows/user folder I never 'hot swap' between DX12 and Vulkan in-game I do not use fast boot in BIOS or Windows so my drivers are always loaded from fresh CPU and GPU temps are perfect and it never runs hot The game is run Windowed Fullscreen - tempted to try another mode and see if that helps - I have noticed there are some parts of the screen that are blurry, especially some text in Windowed Fullscreen, but when I screenshot it's perfectly crisp and clean, so just seems to be screen mode? I do use Awakened POE trade, but that's it. Aside from standard AMD game settings in Andrenaline like sharpness, anti-lag, and AMD Freesync, it's not changed I am not overclocking in any way. I have done |SEVERAL| clean windows install, DDU for drivers, etc and none of this helps. It's only with DX12 and I cannot figure it out. If anyone can give me any help in terms of what to post up here to help find this error I will. Bear in mind I have just cleared my POE cache folder and checked the file registry (as per every crash I get). There is never a problem with the file, I just don't get it, and seem destined to run Vulkan with the occasional choppy moment, but better stability. Is there something I am missing? Has anyone else had this and just accepts it or what? Last edited by Psidaemon on Jan 24, 2023, 3:37:56 AM Last bumped on Sep 9, 2024, 3:20:06 PM

" Try this --> 1. Run packcheck.exe as "an administrator" / In steam select "Verify game files". 2. Delete the local PoE cache files here --> C:\Users\"your windows account name"\AppData\Roaming\Path of Exile\ 3. Now start PoE again as "an administrator". When at the login screen, select options. 4. Now set texture to MEDIUM and Sound channels to low. 5. Login to the game and remove ALL MTX from gems and gear (if you can't login to a char, then use another one and force all the MTX to be connected to this char and then try the other one again). 6. See if the issue is resolved ?
Seriously HanSolo.
I see you copy and paste this reply into EVERY post. Stop with your spamming dude, if you READ my post you see that I have done this. Last edited by Psidaemon on Jan 24, 2023, 4:16:47 AM

" Well ok, "regulary clearing the cache" and me asking for deleting of everything in the cache directory could be seen as the same. So I will give you that. But yes, I make that guide to many people because it does solve the problem for most people. However pretty sure you hadn't set texture to medium and sound channels to low. DX12 is still in BETA for GGG. Lastly GGG doesn't offer TECH support "for the moment" (been like this for several years now), so best of luck to you Exile.
Try multiple loops of 3DMark Time Spy to see if the gpu is stable under DX12 load.

This reply is over a year older than this actual original forum post, but I just wanted to thank HanSoloDK for providing the correct instructions for me to resolve my current DX12 issues with PoE on 3.25:
I was getting crashes loading into Kingsmarch, and sometimes even my hideout. But then I did steps, 1 + 2 + 4, and now my issues is resolved. Not sure why Psidaemon had a go at you prior, but your methods proved handy in the end, if it's any consolation. Cheers. |
