Doryani's Prototype - why you are dying so much and how to fix
And no, it's not just because of DOT damage.
It has mainly to do with HIT damage. And the fact that armour scaling is not clearly understandable. If you decide to wear that armor your lightning resistance has no effect. This doesn't mean that you're at -200, or -60 or any value that is not zero. You're at exactly zero resistance, taking full damage from everything that does Lightning damage. Resistance pierce has no effect either. Elemental Weakness will not increase your lightning damage taken at all. You need to defend against this damage with Armor. Armor doesn't apply to Damage Over Time, so mana siphoner tears you apart in half a second. Same with Shaper beam. Most players know this. What most players DON'T know (or miss) is that Armor damage mitigation is janky AND the game is balanced around having 75 percent elemental resistance. This means that many hits and spells that do lightning damage have significantly higher raw damage values than physical attacks / spells. This makes it extremely difficult to achieve any serious mitigation against really large hits. You'll shrug off small hits no problem, but it's the big hits that ARE a problem. Let's calculate a fairly common map scenario: Tier 16 map with 100% extra phys as lightning and 40% extra crit multiplier. Mob type: Kitava Zaelot Level 83 base damage: 1239 Crit damage in this map: 3345 (+130 base mult, +40 map mod) 100% extra physical added as lightning (when critting): 3345 phys + 3345 lightning This is already a nasty bitch-slap. Now let's make this guy into an Archnemesis monster with Storm Strider. Extremely common mod. This adds: 50% of Physical Damage Converted to Lightning Damage 25% of Physical Damage as Extra Lightning Damage 30% increased Lightning Damage After conversion the damage is 1672 physical and 5017 lightning damage. He gains further 836 from the second affix = 5853 lightning damage And then the whole lightning part gets 30% increase, because that's the only mod like this. It's not 'extra damage' it's 'increased Lightning Damage'. This produces end result with 7609 lightning damage hit when the monster crits. This is just one Archnemesis modifier, they can have much more. You need a fuck ton of armor to mitigate this part by 75% which is your normal resistance cap. On the wiki it's 5x more armor for 50% reduction, 10x more for 66% reduction and 20x more for 80% reduction. So let's say 75% reduction requires 15x more armor than incoming hit. How much armor is that? It's 114 138 armor. To make this lightning part equal to having 75% resist. Let's face it, you are NOT getting this much armor on a normal build that doesn't specialize in stacking it. I was able to achieve this much in Scourge league with int-stacking Raider that converted all of the evasion (gained via Shaper's Touch interaction with massive intelligence pool) into armor. This was about 100k hideout armor, 200k flasked and charged up. Standard build using Doryani's Prototype is likely walking around with 40-60k armor which is nowhere near enough to stop those very large Lightning hits. This is just a Kitava Zaelot critting you with 1 archnem mod. Imagine what happens with a monster that has more modifiers and has stronger Lightning based attacks. HOW TO FIX: 1) Tempered by War keystone on Lethal Pride jewel Converts 50% Cold and Lightning damage taken into Fire 2) Mahuxotl's Machination shield that gives Divine Flesh keystone (on top of several others). This keystone converts 50% of all Elemental damage into Chaos. Normally you cannot use two Timeless jewels to achieve 100% conversion, but this league Trialmaster Uniques are back, so you can! A combination of those 2 items allows you to ignore both Cold and Lightning resistance, you need to max Fire and Chaos. Advisable to throw some max fire res nodes or Purity of Fire. That's it, this protects both from hits and from Lightning DOT's. People caught on, as the shield spiked to over 40 Divine Orbs already. Happy hunting and building your gigachad DPS condiuits or vaal lightning strikes. Last bumped on Jan 1, 2023, 9:47:45 AM

Read the whole post , thanks buddy for sharing this .

The problem with Tempered by War is that the 50% less lightning resistance will actually increase your lightning res, because you're multiplying your negative lightning resistance by a negative number, same interaction as eye of malice
