Unable to activate Tempest shield in spider form

So I just spent 10 minutes trying to figure out why I couldn't activate tempest shield. Turns out spider form MTX from the mystery box is the problem.

If I am in spider form and unequip an item so that I am suddenly unable to use the item where tempest shield is socketed, it will disable it and just say "skill can't be used" no matter what I do.

I was only able to fix it by changing back to normal form and relogging.

Just changing out of spider form does not work.
