Lifetap Buffs Always Overwrite Eachother

When you have multiple durations of lifetap buff, the most recent one that was applied will take precedence even if it has a very short duration.

I've run into this using lightning warp linked to lifetap which inherits the duration of the lightning warp skill and applies an almost 0-second lifetap buff, overwriting the longer 4-6 second ones obtained from different skills.

This may be intentional behavior, but I was under the impression that it would set the remaining lifetap duration to the greater of the current one and the new one when applied.

I'd like to bump this one. I've been playing lightning warp with lifetap for a few weeks and didn't understand the issue until finding this post. I see the lifetap buff appear and disappear almost immediately while warping. It's negating some damage I was expecting from the lifetap support since the buff's uptime is basically nothing.
It should last for 4s. But if you link it with other support gem then it is another story.

It never "extend" the duration for most of the buff, most of the time new one override old one. Unless in the case buff have stronger and weaker versions gained

Bumping for visibility. I don't see any mention of lifetap in the bug fixes from today's patch notes.

I don't understand your comment neohongkong.

I have the following links in a Bronn's Lithe.
Lightning Warp - Elemental Focus - Awakened Lightning Pen - Lifetap -Inc. Crit Damage - Spell Echo

I see the Lifetap buff flash, but it's no where close to 4 seconds duration. I don't see any reason with the links I have that the buff should be flashing. My LW duration isn't that reduced and I don't use that many global sources of reduced duration. Lifetap on other spells will last longer with all the same gear, so there's something up with LW's.
You're dealing with an edge case rather than a bug. Applying the same buff/debuff overrides the existing instance in many cases. It's just the default behavior when there's nothing built in to the effect which changes it.

For example, re-casting Blood Rage or Frost Shield from the same or separate gems, or applying Cruelty from separate skills. Another example is re-using the same flask while the previous effect is still active, or using two of the same type of flask. The most recently used/applied buff will override any that are already present. They don't check to see which one is stronger or factor in duration.

It's different from, say, Elusive. Elusive has a limitation built in that's supposed to prevent it from being reapplied until the existing buff runs its course. It's been kinda busted with Nightblade the whole time since Withering Step can override that, but that's being killed off in 3.20.

Lifetap and various other things have no such mitigating factors built in. Use a skill supported by Lifetap, and said skill is going to apply Lifetap.

It might not get you far, but you could put in some feedback/suggestions on the Lifetap page. It's possible they could make it refresh the duration of the buff on reapply rather than override it.

I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'm not German.
