Can't summon Chaos Golem

Just got the Chaos Golem minion gem. When I slot it, even with an open ability slot, I don't get the option to use the golem on any of my abilities. Any idea what's wrong?

not enough mana? is it linked to anything? that makes it cost more mana

Un-hide you characters tab as well.

Just to make sure:
Plenty skills cant be used in town and will be deactivated whenever you do enter a town. In your hideout or in leveling zones outside of towns you should be able to summon the golem. However it will disappear the moment you do enter a town and spawn right next to you as soon as you leave the town - except when it died before you entered the town and needs to be summoned again. |

Or is your problem that the golem does not appear on the skill bar? You can customize the skill bar by clicking LMB on the skill icon or an empty slot.

I try to summon it while in combat zones. It does not appear as a usable ability on my shortcuts bar.
