Granite Flask Vs Basalt Flask

I can't seem to find a solid answer to this question, but it would appear that for a build that has any decent amount of armour that the Basalt flask would be superior to a Granite flask?

However, all the build guides I use Granite Flasks exclusively. What am I missing?

I would recommend you check both of them for your build specifically in Path of Building (community fork) if you haven't already. Without seeing the build guides you reference I couldn't tell you why they use one over the other, but it is possible that with low amounts of flat armour the Granite could be better.
If you're rolling and enchanting your flasks for increased armor+increased effect, a well-rolled Granite will pretty much always come out on top in the amount of armor given. This is generally the case whether you're scaling armor by other means besides your flasks or not. That +1500 on Granite makes a very big difference, and especially so if you actually are scaling armor elsewhere. The gap between the two widens quite considerably then.
I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'm not German.
You have to have some serious armour for 20% more to be better than 1500 base.

Granite flask can be setup to give you similar armour to every piece you have on combined, honestly it isn't really close.
I find that very odd, because in the builds I'm looking at and have even played, getting to 50K armour seems pretty trivial. When I do use Basalt both in game stats and PoB rank the 20% far better, yet build guides and what you're saying here is to the contrary.

I don't know if people are just missing this, as it appears in the past the Basalt flask had a different effect or if there is something in the game mechanics I don't understand.
when builds are using Determination AND defiance banner, getting 1500 flat armor is waaaaaay more than having another 20% more armor.

and, as others said, when properly rolled, a granite looks like

or Rumis. rumis very good too.

when properly rolled it looks more like this, not like yours :P

You can actually just calculate when Basalt will overtake Granite.

Basalt gives 20% more armour.
Granite gives 1500 base armour.

1500/.2 = 7500

So you need 7500+ base armour from all sources (except Granite) for Basalt to be better. Obviously 7500 base is a lot and not a lot of builds have it, which is why Granite usually wins out.
