Dearest Lady Margaret,
Oh, sister, it has been an age since we last laughed and reminisced together! I hope you are well? How are the children? Growing like weeds I am certain! Alas, but this place can hardly be considered a castle, with it's crumbling frame, drafty halls, and lack of anything good and pure. I think you should feel very fortunate, dearest sister, that you were not the firstborn and saddled with this responsibility, nay, this penance of being the lady of this keep! But I write to you with news, such wonderful news! I have made grand plans for a wondrous occasion, sister, a wondrous feast and ball for the ages! However, I must convey to you such horrible news as well! The insufferable Mr. Moonwraith may still ruin all. One can hardly suggest he is a mage at all, but certainly not the grand mage of his age! He broods, he scowls, and I must attest that I am not certain he is still owner of all of his former wits! You see, the castle waypoint was, shall I say, 'not functional' for what seemed to be eons. The old contraption, fraught with bells, whistles, bonks, clangs - it is a wonder that it was ever functional at all! Poor Mr. Martens! He was to visit me to discuss plans for food and wine deliveries for the grand feast, but his plans were cut short. Oh, my goodness, I must atone for my choice of words ! The infernal Mr. Moonwraith assured me that he had applied the right incantations, and gears, and metallic thingies and such unfamiliar things to make the waypoint device operational again. I'm certain you cannot fathom my sheer horror in witnessing Mr. Martens' legs arrive via the castle waypoint without the rest of his person! I am remiss to confirm that I cannot remove the sight from my mind. The visions haunt me. Mr. Moonwraith has since repaired the waypoint, but I fear this unfortunate event may affect attendance for the feast and festivities! Oh, sister, the rumors have spread, and I do so fear that I will be left alone to my darkest thoughts on what should be a spectacular evening! Please say you will come! I have since demanded that Mr. Moonwraith conjure joy and mirth where there is none. He must permit me this request! He just sits in his dreary library and stares at the void. It sends shivers down my spine, sister! I have requisitioned Mr. Moonwraith to create a Candy Courtyard! All the flowers, trees, and mushrooms are to be edible confectionery delights! A desert for the Gods! Mr. Moonwraith, that insufferable, insufferable, wretched man, replied to my request sarcastically, "Yes, m'lady, I will repurpose the ancient portal device on the grounds and build a 'Confectionery Concoction Device' I suppose you want fireworks, too!" With that, he shuffled away cursing me as he left my person! The nerve of this abomination of a man! Oh, if I could only pick him up and throw him into the lake! Oh, dear sister, please say that you will visit me. I miss you so. And the children, of course! Two soldiers on watch over the Witch's Beacons: Soldier 1: "Hot, muggy, and yet still a chill in the air. This night brings bad tidings. It's no wonder they call this swamp 'Ole' Muggy- buggy'." Soldier 2: "Pshaw. This old Witch nonsense is nonsense." Soldier 1: "Pshaw to your pshaw, you fool, I.........where in the name of the gods is your armor, soldier !? Have you gone mad?" Soldier 2: "The funniest thing.....I awoke this AM and attempted to adorn my armor just like any other day. First my body armor, then my gloves, then my helm.....when I tried to put on my belt, I distinctly heard a disembodied voice say, "Can't quite get my head around this one." I tried again, "Can't quite get my head around this one"....AGAIN !" Soldier 1: "Not surprising." Soldier 2: "I...huh?" Soldier 1: "So you decided to show up to the watch without your armor then, did ye? Idiot." Soldier 2: "But the belt wouldn't go on! Just the voice! I thought if I took all my armor off again and tried again it would work. Didn't work." Soldier 1: "Don't talk about disembodied voices on a night like tonight, fool. You are tempting fate. Just shut up and keep an eye on the beacons." Soldier 2: "These beacons will never go out. The Witch will never come back. I doubt the Witch ever existed. Just fairy-tales." Soldier 1: "If you DO not shut that infernal yapping hole in your head, I will shut it for you. Watch yer tongue, boy, lest I throw you head first into that swamp." Soldier 2: (mutters) Soldier 1: "Be glad you aren't keeping watch over the Witch's grave like Alva and Jun. Brave souls, those." Soldier 2: "I...oh, hello, Niko. Did...." Niko: "Did you hear that?..." Soldier 1: "Not you too. Both of ye, shut yer traps. Watch the beacons." Soldier 2: "C'mon. Do you really believe that the Witch comes back from the dead if the beacons go out on All Hallow's Eve?" Soldier 1: (claps Soldier Two in the ear) Soldier 1: "Yes, I believe it, you horse's backside. I've seen it. I lived it. Twenty seven years ago to this very night that .....that thing...arose and wreaked havoc across the land....wailing for her lost daughter. It wasn't without the blessings of the gods, and a little luck, mind ye, that she was put down again.....for the 5th time, no less....and sealed in that crypt in the graveyard. These enchanted beacons that lead to her putrid hut at the edge of the swamp serve as our only warning if the seals.....gods forbid....are ever broken again." Soldier 2: "Pshaw. I need to relieve myself. Be right back." Soldier 1: "Grand."
