Energy blade questions.

I'm trying to make a energy blade character for my last character of the league.
But I have a simple question for this and I don't really know what keyword should I use to search for it, so might as well try asking here.

So, what node should I look out for boosting the damage?
By that I mean, since it replace the weapon I'm using. So does that mean:
1. It's "energy BLADE", so I should look out for sword nodes, whether I choose to go 1H or 2H;
or 2. Say I'm using a axe, should I use axe damage nodes?

From the wording it feels like option 1 because energy blade is replacing the weapon I'm going to use.
I also tested it a little bit with equipping a wand (Since the only weapon type that can't use EB is bow). I can't fire power siphon with it. But this doesn't really help because I still don't know if it counts as sword or not.

Please someone who tried EB before help me out!

It is a sword that replaces your previous weapon(s).

If you were using a two-handed weapon, you get a two-handed energy blade. If you were dual wielding, you get two one-handed energy blades, and if you were using a shield you get one one-handed one.

Sword nodes will work, axe nodes will not. The weapon you used previously will be entirely replaced and only its sockets and links will remain.
