Tormented Spirits. Get rid of them or improve them.

I feel like it's a waste of time waiting around for a Tormented Spirit to actually possess a rare or unique monster. Why not cut out the middle-man? If a Tormented Spirit is rolled in a map, then have the rare or unique already possessed when you enter the map, as well as the surrounding mobs already touched.

If not, then they should be removed.

PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

MFers found strength in their Afflictions. They became reliant on them. I am not so foolish.
i support this whole heartedly, when i see a tormented spirit, i never try to chase it into a rare monster. its a waste of time.

having them automatically possess monsters is a much better improvement,

then again getting into a boss arena with a spirit possessing it could totally spoil my leveling or brick the map if i cant handle it

i m not sure if you've realized, but ggg has constantly been trying to update league mechanics so that more players enjoy them.

then you should know what happened to prophecy and perandus which were inferior mechanics.

I'd find Tormented Spirits less objectionable if half my encounters with them weren't seeing or hearing them escaping at the very moment I detected them at all. An inferior nod to the Loot Goblin, they have no real function now, save occasionally to possess a boss mob and spoil one's day. =9[.]9=

Two leagues have already been removed from the game for having inferior mechanics. Ignoring that fact is eventually going to have tormented spirits removed from the game in the future.

This could be alleviated by addressing why they're inferior and making improvements so players will have more desire to engage with them.

Also, in answer to your question: Yes. If the reward isn't worth the risk, why bother? Why make the game harder on yourself for a negligible increase in loot? I don't see why we can't have divination spirits that drop random cards and stacked decks, or tormented operatives that drop scarabs, or tormented purifiers that drop blight oils, etc.
