Visual indication of Eater of Worlds influence on items that are not influed

I have had drops visually indicate that they are influence by the Eater of Worlds but upon pickup are not influenced. This has occurred with equip-able items, currency, divination cards, and even gems. Is this intended, a visual bug, or a functional bug?
Below is a picture of what looks like an Eater of Worlds influenced cremation gem. You can also see two divination cards with the Eater of Worlds influence indicator on them.


The equip-able items are also indicated to be influenced but are not. I assumed this discrepancy for those items was due to them being corrupted.

Had the same thing happen, a majority of items dropped for a fight had some influence icon on the drop labels. (Never did memorize what all those random icons mean.)

At least one item did actually have the influence, but most were not actually influenced.

The label icons had disappeared when I walked around the map a bit and returned.

This repeated in another later fight, where one item dropped actually influenced, and others (after it?) dropped with the label icon but no actual influence.
