Quivers VS Literally nothing (lets fix it: Sigils, Sheathes, Scabbards)
|
To start a bow is a two handed weapon that allows you to equip an additional item giving you a lot of stats in various areas and this combo is very often used to cast certain spells, I don't really have a problem with bow casters though it feels like they need some better support that is more immersive but enough on that.
Disclaimer scabbards were another users idea, a damn good idea imo. Why add this?: Bows can compete with Staffs already without the quiver involved and when you add that element in niche as it might be the bow becomes stronger in many situations and that's fine but i believe that the other two handed melee/magical weapons should also be able to benefit from this in their own way.. given the state of melee i am 100% behind scabbards/sheathes and the sigils are merely a personal wish but they also make a bit of sense to even the playing field with bowcasters(my staff cant fire arrows) Types of items: -1&2 handed scabbards Scabbards would give the same general types of bonuses a quiver could give but with a lean towards melee type stats similar to how a quiver works and scabbards are only available to use with sword/dagger/twohandedsword etc One handed scabbards are only available while weilding a single one handed weapon. -1&2handed Sigils sigils are small magical shields that like a quiver or scabbard would give small bonuses to various magical stats and perhaps provide ward or energy shield as possible rolls and these are only available for use with wands and staves. Sigils are an one-size-fits-all situation and likely do not have the same level of buffs that melee scabbards/sheathes would have. -1&2Handed Sheathes Sheathes are just like scabbards but provide slightly different melee bonuses and are for axes and other weapons that can not realistically have a proper scabbard. as with scabbards one handed sheathes only work while wielding a single one handed weapon compatible with a sheath. If you like or dislike this idea or have anything to add to the list please do, inspired by the other post mentioning scabbards i could not help bringing the topic up again including sigils and other mechanics on my mind. You pretty much covered why Bows did not need a buff.
They've been majority used for countless leagues. Adding more additions just isn't needed. Two-Handed / Staves rolled higher stats. That was their perk. They've gotten less use because various mechanics were nerfed, esp STR based defense options. ie Enduring Cry + Immortal layering. Shields are too strong. DW has been held up by Savior and 2-handed is too squishy now. That doesn't really require more items. Just more reasonable balance. Which they just screwed up further. I always thought cloaks would make sense. Dunno why you couldn't use one while dual wielding though.

" more is not always better i wont argue on that, A ways back when i made my first thread about quiver+bow vs Staff balance i took a look at the rolls that the items could receive and as far as i could tell at that time it was not really more or less than the bow.. Perhaps its changed or im missing which stats are getting the higher bonuses. " This is kind of about leveling the playing field with quiviers, i don't see why these options would be only limited to one type so a cloak could definitely work just as well as most things given its taking an inventory slot and its not like you can just keep stacking them. but as to why you cant use them while dual wielding its because the offhand weapon is literally taking the slot :P but that would leave duel wielding players perhaps feeling left out. " This. Hit-based bows apparently needed to be buffed because everyone who used bows were using them for DoT or caster builds, but they were already about 20 times better than 2h melee after the Fortify change so it's a real head-scratcher for sure. Adding some unsocketable item, a la Scabbards/Sheathes/etc for non-staff 2h melee weapons would go a long way to closing that gap, even if the only available mods were defensive. |

" The rolls for staff and pre-buff Bow + Quiver were similar however staves could block. As an item they actually made a better Offense/Defense hybrid option than Dual Wielding has been for a while without Savior. Before the passive tree swap they got some pretty easy and strong nodes. Two-handed, I don't know anymore, Esp Mace. It's good that they brought shields down a bit but they brought everything else down also so there still isn't much difference and some are even worse. Melee without Block and/or Suppression is just splat esp with the Fortify goofs and Second Wind nerf making Enduring Cry a 15 point investment to function properly. 300mana cost Immortal Call. It's just all backwards IMO. Your idea isn't bad. It's more a fix for their bad decisions. "Never trust floating women." -Officer Kirac

I'd really prefer they left two-handed weapons as taking up both slots. It's part of what's unique about them.
Also, the idea that you could use a scabbard for one-handed weapons but only if your other hand was empty or not holding a shield seems to kind of...ignore what a scabbard is. |

" well i've seen them used in a similar fashion to a shield, if it were to give that type of bonuses it would have to be held one would imagine. but having it passively work like a quiver is fine too, i honestly only really care about seeing spellcasting be primarily done with staves and wands/sceptres etc instead of bowcasters dominating the field for lots of spells. The melee additions definitely seem nice with melee feeling somewhat lackluster for a long time and if ONLY that were thought about by GGG i'd take it over my personal want here regarding staves.
