Bug Reports (Path of Exile 1) - The "Trinity Support" does not increase your resonance if the highest damage in a hit is physical. - Forum

Pretty much whats in the title. My Trinity did not give me any resonance when the highest damage portion of the hit was physical, even though it dealt elemental damage.
