So if you can't defeat the 4 end game bosses for voidstone...

are you just stuck with a couple red maps forever? And does that mean you can't use sextants until at least one of those guys are down?

The Watchstone system has also been removed, and replaced with Voidstones which are obtained by defeating The Uber Elder, The Maven, The Searing Exarch and The Eater of Worlds. These Voidstones raise the tiers of maps on your Atlas and can be augmented by Sextants.

i think those stones just make all the maps go tier 16...
Yeah early league players are screwed, no sextants for them. I don't know why GGG thinks its a good idea.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. It seems like the new atlas has mostly really, REALLY good changes. GGG has made an effort to SIMPLIFY (much needed!!!) but still managed to maintain depth and complexity.

Sextants are annoying to roll, IMO they should be 10 times as rare and count for 25 uses. The fact we don't have to dick around with watchstones, regions and sextants in early maps is amazing.

In regards to not being able to kill endgame bosses the key is this:

Pick a strong build to make currency and clear 90% of the atlas, then fund a new build which is a boss killer specialist. It's not too much about your skill or to time to play as much as it's about strategy used to reach your goal.

It definitely seems to push the meta more. Before, if you couldn't beat Sirus or Maven, you could still fully upgrade the atlas. You just had to beat the relatively easy conquerors.

Now, to upgrade it you need to reliably be able to beat Uber Elder, Maven, Searing Exarch and Eater of Worlds.

No clue how hard the final two are, but probably harder than Uber and Maven?

So basically, mediocre builds are worse off.
Bossers are going to make quadrillions of mirrors in the first week of the league lmao.

Hope there's a lot of fun stuff in the atlas tree like the 6 mod abyss jewel one that offers alternative farming methods. Speed running map bosses at sonic speed to maximize fragment maps per hour is looking incredibly juicy.

My assumption is that any map natural to a given tier won't need to be upgraded to have access to that map. So there should be a variety of red maps available on a non-upgraded Atlas, though it's unclear just how many yet. The Voidstones are for upgrading everything else to higher tiers and finishing off whatever bonuses are involved.

There's a whole section in the notes about sextants. In short, no you will not be able to use sextants without Voidstones.
I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'm not German.

Wondering if they're using this new system to see which bossing builds are OP and then nerf it for 3.18.

You should be able to achieve 2 voidstones with every character without much difficulty.

In the stream, it seemed like you could find and kill The Searing Exarch and The Eater of Worlds outside of red maps (similar to The Elder fights in white/yellow maps in the past, or even the Conquerors appearing outside of red maps).

So there's 2 stones down. Just in normal progression. If your build cannot do The Maven or Uber Elder, then you may need to pay to get the last 2 stones. Consider it aspirational content. Goals to keep you playing.

Keep in mind that they are adjusting The Maven. So we might be able to fight her in a weaker version (again, think white Elder), if they're altering her. This part wasn't really implied, and is a hypothesis I doubt will occur (I think they're only making her rewards better and that's it), but it might mean 3 stones through normal progression.
Bring back race seasons.
Why worry?
This game now is for streamers only.

Rest of players do some acts then quit.
