Unique maps are in a really bad spot
Here's my experience with unique maps in PoE
- gimmicky & confusing (eg: twilight temple, oba's) - boring - 99% are unrewarding (the good ones like vinktars were nerfed to oblivion, most other's have very outdated rewards that haven't been touched in years - eg: Olmec's sanctum, acton's nightmare) - annoying design - extremely annoying layout or bosses (eg: pillars of arun, whakawairua tuahu) I think these need to be looked at and modernized to bring them to a somewhat similar level to other maps. Right now they are a snoozefest and the only reason for running them is to get completion or crafting recipes. Putrid cloister is probably the only map that has somewhat desirable rewards. I'm honestly convinced that most unique maps are bad on purpose because GGG wishes they had never added them in the first place. Sort of a "this was a terrible idea, but now we're stuck with it" situation. Because there's just no reason for them to be as insanely bad as they are, reward-wise, and it's not like GGG doesn't see the metrics telling them how often a given map is run.

they are terrible and every league we have to do them all for a challenge |

If we were getting Sirus progress for completing unique maps, more people would run them.
Vaults of Atziri, Maelstrom of Chaos and Caer Blaidd are fast maps with good layout and Mao Kun has good rewards, but it's a bit annoying to complete. If they were giving Sirus progress, I would run them more often for sure. For the rest, probably I'd run them more often only if they greatly improve the rewards. Most likely I'd still skip Pillars of Arun though. Last edited by 6_din_49#4066 on Nov 29, 2021, 5:58:49 AM

" Don't need metrics for this. The answer is once per league, and once because it's always a stupid challenge. Otherwise, why would you? Barring the map that drops Div Cards, they maps are all why bother, unless for some reason you want to farm the Aegis shields in Moon Temple. Poor Joy's used to be run for XP, but it's now also why bother. Running breach stones is better. And since neither drop, one has to trade to acquire, who's going to pick Poor Joy's. No one. |

I agree. I don't run them. Maybe once per league sometimes.
The one that was modernized a few leagues ago, coward's trial is ok. The rest not so much. |

I like them as they are different and not more of the same. But I also play the game for fun, sooo...
