Fortify - how does it work now?

I'm sorry but I'm not sure I get how it works now. Could anyone explain?

More specifically this part:

grant a number of stacks of Fortification based on the percentage of the enemy's ailment threshold dealt by the hit that applied Fortify to you

it means you actually have to do some serious damage to get fortification stacks. And to work with bosses, it is not based on % of life dealt but rather on ailment threshold.

the change happened to prevent casters and summoners from getting fortify

Prevents everyone from getting fortify now. FIX FORTIFY.

For most mobs, the ailment threshold is equal to their maximum life. For endgame bosses like Sirus and Shaper, it's substantially lower than their max life (so you can still have some chance of applying ailments to them).

Generic Zombie vs. The Shaper, for comparison. You can find the formulas for calculating damage vs threshold for ailments here. I don't believe anything regarding exactly how Fortify works within this system has been published anywhere yet.
I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'm not German.
thank you very much, aggromagnet

How does that apply to vigilant Strike which grants a fortify buff? Is the buff ineffective until you hit stuff?

  • Vigilant Strike no longer has “Can’t be Evaded”. It now has “Melee Hits Fortify for 8 seconds” at all gem levels (previously “Grants Fortify for 6 seconds on Melee Hit” at gem level 1, up to 11.7 seconds at gem level 20). Now deals 230% of base Attack Damage at gem level 1 (previously 222%), up to 350% gem level 20 (previously 325%). Now has 230% Effectiveness of Added Damage at gem level 1 (previously 222%), up to 350% at gem level 20 (previously 325%). Quality now grants 0-20% increased Damage (previously “Grants Fortify for 0-2 seconds on Melee Hit”).
  • Quality on the Phantasmal Vigilant Strike Skill now grants “Melee Hits Fortify for 0-2 seconds” (previously 0-20% increased Damage)[/lu]
[li]Quality on the Divergent Vigilant Strike Skill now grants 0-10% increased Cooldown Recovery Rate (previously 0-60%).
  • The Vigil now causes Vigilant Strike to grant the same amount of Fortification to Allies as it grants to You.

It's in the patch notes...It grants the ability to Fortify, but it still requires the applicable ailment threshold to be met.
