Should I convert old map to new?

I will lose opportunity to play old maps. Also if capacity is halved I would loose lot of of maps. What is benefit of converting?

Pony up for a new tab and go with both!

The advantage is that you don't have to deal with more than one set of maps.

Yea I'm thinking about it.

So I hit convert and my map stash shows maps but whem i open one its empty did I just fry a couple thousand maps?

No, once you click on each tier, the map count will show.

The question is, what exactly happens when you click Convert Maps in Standard?

Do you actually lose maps? Where do the maps that are gone (eg Beach) go? Yes, they get converted, but when your tabs are already full, then what happens to the surplus maps?
