Multiple passive trees please.

I found a similar thread, but could not reply so I am making a new one.

There is a game called age of conan. In age of conan you can switch up your passive trees and for some fights it is necessary, because some bosses need more defense or offense. Or skill tree only options are needed for certain bosses. This was one of the funner aspects of the game as I could play multiple roles on the same character. The game had 30 minute or so cooldown on changing the passive tree.

Giving us the ability to have multiple saved trees that we can switch through would greatly increase the amount of flexibility for players.

For example, I like to level and play solo with a certain passive tree and gear. But when I play in a party I focus more on passives and gear that will help the party. I can do this with regrets, but it is expensive and time consuming and that prevents me from doing it more than once or twice.

As a result of the regret orb problem, I tend pile up a ton of money on solo, before switching to multiplayer and as a casual player this makes me miss out on a lot of party play. I play solo with minions which are not very party friendly. And after I switch to party play I can't do solo unless I shell out massive regret orbs.

I understand that I could make 2 totally different characters, but as a casual player I prefer 1 character per league, unless a character fails of course.

I understand that I could play standard to avoid making new characters, but there are problems with standard. For example some gear is 10 times the price or more on standard cause of price fixers in small economy. I tend to see more negative attitudes on standard from players in general as well.

Ideally there would be at least 4 passive trees to switch from. An offensive and defensive focused passive tree for solo play. And an offensive and defense focused passive tree for multiplayer.

+1 This is CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY given how complicated the ONE skill tree is, but I would completely be in favor of a swappable tree to go along with our swappable gear. I have never ever played an rpg that had a double passive tree situation like that and I think it'd be great.

The ONLY problem I foresee...whats to stop players from just building two entirely separate characters on those trees, rather than a defensive/offensive? This is something GGG is already against and kind of why regret orbs are even a thing in the game. They consider having to rebuild the tree / story progression to be important for replayability and retention.
Thanks for reply jsuslak313.

I was not recommending a brand new passive tree, I just meant you could save multiple paths on the tree and use them without regret orbs. Just put a cooldown on it.

This will allow people to use different builds without a cost outside of gear swapping. I didn't think about that conflicting with the core philosophy of the game creators so maybe this is just a dream for now.

I might be able to get around this next league by investing in my passives into curses/defense for party play. Then if I need minion damage I can scale it all on my gear. That allows me to gear swap for solo play. There is quite a bit of minion damage and attack speed on gear. Should be enough to cover most solo play without regret orbs.

I should point out most builds are not that flexible for moving from solo to multiplayer with gear swaps alone. I will say that cluster jewels add a lot of easy flexibility for people who want this option. The regret price on jewels is cheaper and all the passives are already preset for you once you buy them. I think the game is getting fairer for people who want more flexibility, without just giving players unlimited flexibility.
