So Runic Monsters can get Nemesis Soul Eater

So. Leveling a new character, flying through things. Hit this expedition on the Descent and had really minimal remnants. Chance to poison (regret) and more magic monsters and I think 25% pack size. I just blew up mounds for monsters to get some exp. There were a LOT of monsters.

Based on previous encounters using rampage gloves, average mob count is around 100 for open sites like this one was.
So, there were roughly 100-130ish enemies coming out.
I dropped warchief and positioned myself to cleave some exp bags down.

But uhh... this guy was mixed in there.

Soul Eater mod:
"Soul Eater is a stackable buff that grants 5% increased attack speed, 5% increased cast speed and 1% increased character size per stack. Every enemy killed grants 1 stack."

"In addition to attack speed, cast speed and increased character size , nemesis (orange) version of Soul Eater buff on monster, gain Grants 5% increased Damage Reduction to aura owner on death (Hidden). This means killing a pack of monsters around the pack leader that has Soul Eater nemesis mod/aura/buff, will make the monster with Soul Eater to have damage reduction."
Oddly worded but nemesis version of this mod grants him stacks when other stuff around him dies and also... 5% damage reduction per stack...

"When having this buff, there is no cap on how many souls can be stacked." - yikes.

Also another page says stacks improve a monsters other mods too, so extra extra cold damage.

The normal version of this mob is about the same size as the character.
This MFer was a good 2-2.5x larger at least.
Given the massive number of enemies that died around him, along with the fact that he also spawns more enemies that die and give him more stacks. I'd say he had at least 150 stacks when he decided to near instantly 2-tap melee me from halfway across the screen.

5% attack speed for 150 stacks: 750% increased attack speed.
Normal one looks to attack around 2x per second.
17 attacks per second?
Each hit was about 60% of my hp, so he hits me for 10x my hp per second just through hit damage. His swing range was almost half the screen. Then the poison he inflicted from the remnant (regret!) I had to flask twice to live through if I managed to dash away before he landed a 2nd hit (no curing flask atm on him).

I died twice trying to go past him, but instead of creating a new instance I just cheesed him.
Patiently.
Lured to cliff with totem and let it wail on him... slowly whittling away through his ridiculously stacked DR.

Spoiler
He dropped some common relic frags, woo.

This should actually go under "bug report" section, as unbalanced one-shot mechanic.

If its all true.

There is no bug. Soul Eater and Allies Cannot die should both removed from the game . Or it should nerf Soul Eater to match HH version and monster version

I like them, to be honest. It is one of those "oh shit" moments Chris Wilson was talking about - and on that one, I actually do agree with him. Maybe I would see things differently if I was playing Hardcore. I am much more annoyed by insane life regeneration.
Remove Horticrafting station storage limit.
As far as encountering "Oh shit" enemies, yeah, that's a good thing to have. Keeps the game spicy. If nothing 'can' kill you then there's no challenge beyond beating your head over the endless grind for stuff.

This was a bit... not so good lol. No defense in the game is capable of dealing with actually fighting something that juiced up. If Soul Eater had a stack cap there would be no issue like this one. It just happened to roll that mod spawning in a pile beyond normal gameplay. Ordinarily a rare probably only has 7-15 enemies in his pack, soul eater only becomes a problem when there are boatloads of enemies.

I'm just glad I didn't run into this one on a map and lose 2 hours of exp for nothing.

Two things I hate on monsters: beyblade attack speed and random crit 1shots.

I tried to stick with HC in ritual league, but random doped up enemies just make it ridiculous sometimes.

Edit: now that I think about it he hit me for 60% of my hp with wind dancer active.

lol...trying to justify anything, even if it is beyond any rationality...yep.
Clearly this was not intended. Like OP said, nothing against a good challenge every now and then. A good challenge means for instance that a monster hits you for 50%-75% of life every 3rd hit maybe (assuming you don't dodge), but you have actual time to react and take potions. This makes intense gameplay, especially on hardcore this would be nerve-racking.

But facing something like this, where you will simply be instagibbed at least once, it was clearly not intentional and cannot be defended by any means.

thats not even fun i ran into this in a log and I had a group of 5 and yeah coulden't even finish it because loading in I was dead 2 screens away as one was a archer..

Allies cannot die only exists on totems now. It was replaced by benevolent guardian on rares which is far less annoying.

Yes i know. I wrote the wiki and before that i got the reply from dev that is inteneded.

So why not Soul Eater dont have the same treatment? Map version of Alira can keep it but not rare

It is currently intended thus not a bug, but at the saem time as a feedback, remvove soul eater from rare and magic monster

Possesed by Sirus AND got nemesis soul eater. And Life regen. He spawned with his pile of buddies, which died, and became immortal and fast AF.
T14 Atoll map. This guy just cost me half a lvl for no reason.
All of the other Possessed by Sirus guys were already tough as nails and fast.
I don't think they need to accelerate to ludicrous speed.

I think I remember Chris saying something about 'slowing the game down'?
*Gives pointed look at Soul Eater*
