the Truth about ilvl 100 coral ring

I've talked with a couple of people in-game regarding this particular piece of gear and i realized that probably many players have a lot of misconceptions about it.

They believe that somehow this ring will have some special/secret magical power and also have some secret/special magic modifiers on it with their number values out of whack.

They hope they can sell it at exorbitant huuuge prices just because of their misconceptions.

Well, they are wrong (actually they could sell it for high enough value if they meet a "collector" or just some really dumb dude who believes that the pigs can fly).

Despite the fact that the ilvl of this ring is 100 there are no ilvl 80+ magic modifiers currently in game!
So the maximum magic modifiers that can possibly spawn on this ring are the ilvl79 ones that are currently the maximum ilvls mods in the game! Which, of course, can also spawn on any ilvl79 ring.
Also, the implicit mod this ring can have it's the same 20-30 life.

You can see the list of the current magic modifiers here:
prefixes - http://www.pathofexile.com/item-data/prefixmod
suffixes - http://www.pathofexile.com/item-data/suffixmod

So, to conlude:
the ilvl 100 coral ring is basically a ilvl 79 coral ring (that you can easily buy in-game for probably 1gcp, more or less) and the difference between them is just the artwork.
if ggg will add higher ilvls in the future then it'll be the same with the highest ilvl at that time, also easily purchasable in-game.

have fun!

big news
I'm pretty sure most people understand how this works ...

A collectible art version of the highest ilevel ring (of the best base type for rolling) seems like a pretty sweet reward to me. Problem?

edit: I also think you mean 'exorbitant'. If 'absorbitant' was a word, it wouldn't mean what you think it means :)

The only value it has is for collectors.

As new high level content comes out, so come gear affixes, at some point those will reach the high 90s, meaning the ring can reach the maximum potential stats at any point in the game.
When it comes out, high level content will also bring ... high level ordinary coral rings ;)
Like I said, it will be the same with a coral ring that has the highest ilvl available in the future.
So its just the artwork that is a plus for the ilvl100 one, nothing more.

Its only "potential" is the artwork.

You'd be surprised how many actually do not understand how this works.

We can pretty much be sure that when changes are made to increase the item levels, it will include monster levels, and add new maps/areas/difficulties. When new higher level areas are added you can again be pretty sure that just getting to those new areas with old items will be a challenge. To have a ILvl 100 ring to use while you're getting to monster level 90+ areas is extremely useful and puts you ahead of the curve. We can't be sure exactly how useful but I'm willing to guess the value of these rings are not overestimated.

Buy the ticket, take the ride.

The ring was by far the sweetest of the Season 1 race prices, IMO (except the Wreath, maybe). It was my main motivation for entering races in the first place. I wouldn't trade it for anything but the most ridiculous of offers.

Hoping for an ilvl 100 Prismatic or Onyx in this spot for Season 2!
Obviously there will be higher lvl stat modifiers gona be added to the game sooner or later. So keeping this ring for future is a good idea.
