Rage Vortex and Chainbreaker interaction/gameplay mechanics

The new skill Rage Vortex and the Timeless Jewel Node Chainbreaker can interact with each other in different ways. Depending on how they work together this might make or break the entire combo.

1. Cost Combined = Sacrifice
The sacrifice rage part and the added rage cost of chainbreaker are added as total cost. This cost is the total rage sacrificed.
This would be the strongest possible combo for this skill. However i personally assume this is the by far least likely interaction.
Example:
having 100 max rage
20 rage sacrificed
12 through chainbreaker
total 32 rage cost = 160% more damage and 16 radius.

2. Rage Vortex > Chainbreaker
The sacrifice rage part of Rage Vortex and the Rage base cost of Chainbreaker are seperate costs for the skill. Rage Vortex Sacrifice is caluclated first and Chainbreaker Rage cost calculated second.

Example:
having 100 max rage
20 Rage Sacrificed
= 100% more damage, 10 radius
12 Rage cost from chainbreaker afterwards.
The total rage cost stays at 32. The damage and AoE is a lot lower.

3. Chainbreaker > Rage Vortex
Same as 2. but Chainbreaker cost is deducted first.

Example:
having 100 max rage
12 rage cost through chainbreaker
20% sacrifice applies to the remaining 88 Rage left
=> 17 Rage sacrificed (or 18 if rounded up, tho i think its rounded down)
= 85% more damage, 8 Radius
The total rage cost is reduced to 29, The Damage and AoE is even lower.

===========================================================================

In case you are wondering about the values used in my examples:
100 max rage is achieved through:
50 Base rage
+15 Rage on Skill Tree (Berserking and Hatchet Master)
+10 Rage on Berserker Ascendency (Crave the Slaughter)
+20 Rage on Bear's Girdle (belt uniq)
+5 Rage on Replica Conquerer's Efficency (uniq jewel, limited to 1)

Chainbreaker adds a Flat cost of 3 Rage which is then multiplied by Support Gems. Linking Rage Vortex with: Pulverize, Melee Phys damage, Brutality, Rage, Impale. Increases the cost to 12 Rage. This is however just an example and not a discussion about what Links to use.

Hope we can get an answer from GGG, so that we can start theorycrafting :)

Hey, i too am interested in this particular new skill.

I heard many times that it would just be a burst skill but you couldn't build it as primary skill.

So far, i fear that Chainbreaker ate a nerf to big to work. But a thing that lot of reviewer tend to forgot is that you can use the skill without the rage effect. So maybe 1 strike every 5 strike you dont launch a vortex.
We definitely need some numbers to check if viable to play it like a archmage where you build rage and send screen wide vortex, or more frequently.

If its the second, my two cents a build with redbanner shield and warcry could provide enough rage for it to work.

Thinking about a trying bloodthristy support setup, maybe with petrified blood.

If you have some ideas for a build, i need inspiration !
I think they are trying to get people to consider more than one primary spam skill.

You will have a different main skill, then use this every time it drops off.

Sort of like using vortex and cold snap together maybe.

I think its concept works well with Bladestorm personally.
I see 3 ways of dealing with this, simplest is redblade banner interaction with warcries and berserker warcry nodes. 1 warcry, full Bar, two warcries attack is exerted so it deals more damage. Second way uses rotblood promise to self curse with temporal chains, then using interaction with chain breaker to fill the bar to the Max, that way we can use rigwald savagery and paradoxica or debeons dirge.
Sorry meant chains of emancipation belt not chain breaker.
So do we know how this works now? Leveling a rage vortex berserker at the moment and could spec into chainbreaker if it's good?
