Question regarding "Infernal Legion"

Hi,

I am wondering if I have flame , ice , lightning , carrion, stone golem all linked to a single "infernal legion support gem" in chest piece will the infernal legion damage be 5 times the original ?

if not... then if I put golem gems in helm, weapons and armor, will that triple my damage? (I keep seeing/reading that people say the damage needs to be difference source, but what is consider to be a different source?)

Only the strongest Infernal Legion will deal damage to a single target, regardless of how and where the setups are socketed.

If you want Infernal Legion to deal as much damage as possible, you should only link a single minion gem and use support gems in the other slots to boost the damage.

If you want to use Infernal Legion to kill your minions, it does not matter how they are socketed, so you might as well save gem slots by having them all in the same item, but their Infernal Legion damage will not stack.

Debuffs in PoE in general do not stack unless they say otherwise, and, well, Infernal Legion does not say otherwise. What they mean by different sources is another debuff that deals fire damage over time, such as ignite. If you scaled your minion damage, you could have a minion that deals damage with Infernal Legion and a different one that scales its ignites, and both the ignite and Infernal Legion debuff would deal damage and stack with another.

Multiple ignites or multiple instances of Infernal Legion however will not, and only the highest will apply its damage.

For the record it might be worth noting that debuffs that are directly applied to targets like ignite unlike the aura-like Infernal Legion all still exist on the target, even if only the highest one deals damage. So when a high damage ignite expires and a low damage ignite is still applied to the target, the low damage ignite will continue dealing damage, even though its damage had been irrelevant up to that point.
Thank you for the clear up.

I was thinking about using the new "Amanamu's Gaze Ghastly jewel" to try scaling the damage over time on the infernal legion, but I guess it won't be worth it.
I don't think Infernal Legion cannot stack. It just fire DOT, NOT ignite.

The only DoTs that stack without having it explicitly mentioned in the tooltip are poison and Toxic Rain, unless I have missed a new one that has been added while I was not playing. Maybe the 10 stacks of Corrupting Blood from Corrupting Fever? I do not know whether that is listed in the advanced tooltip though, since the debuff existed before the skill did. RF, SR, SB, FT, etc. all don't stack multiple times, only with different DoTs.
RF is coded as Debuff, you have that debuff icon when pvp.

OK. And debuffs generally only have the strongest one apply at any given time. They do not stack. Why would Infernal Legion be an exception?

In any case, the OP's question should be easy to test. Try it with 1 golem vs 5 golems; 400% more burning damage is easy to notice.

It doesn't stack. Although I was pretty sure it wouldn't, I still tested it once just to be certain. But since the AoE is fairly small, having multiple sources does at least increase coverage when clearing maps.
I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'm not German.
I'm not 100% sure but the damage should stack. "The fire damage over time to nearby enemies do stack" - https://pathofexile.fandom.com/wiki/Infernal_Legion_Support
