Petrified Blood = no more random one-shots?

Tala moana exiles,

I have made insane tank builds in the past: 6k life / 9k mana agnostic hierophants, 9 endurance charge 9k life chieftain, max block and increased fortify effect, dual nebulochs, inquisitor with insane regen,... .

And sooner or later I ALWAYS died to a random unavoidable one-shot. I even started prioritizing reduced extra damage from crits as a chest corruption, but even that didn't help.

But in 3.14 we'll get petrified blood. I'm super excited, as it finally seems we'll get something to prevent one-shots!

What are your thoughts on the new skill?

I would not qualify any of your descriptions as tanky and I'm serious.

If anything, 9 endurance charges and 9k life = squishy because it's essentially just 9K life against anything that is not physical damage and against physical damage it's only 36% reduction.

Other than that Petrified Blood applies to hits only, so I think it's trash.

Here's my current non-tanky Reap build building in progress

95% of the hits and 80% of spells never reach me and I wouldn't consider this build tanky yet.

I agree that is not a tanky build. I have played something very similar in the past and many of the builds I mentioned (briefly, they had more layers of defense than only the ones I listed) felt tankier.

By the way, I consider 75% chaos resistance mandatory for non-CI builds these days... .

Back on topic: what do you people think about petrified blood? Will it be the ultimate defensive layer?
Wait for the release of the gem info... all we have now is a glimpse. You can't analyze a glimpse.

It's a very straightforward spell, a glimpse is all you need.

But it is tankier in effective health pool wise than all of your described builds.

It's still in building progress with only 2 affixes per gear type.

Here's an extremely tanky build for you that won't get one shot.

At some point you will be at 50% life with this skill, no more flask charges or whatever.
Now coupled with that the gem still allows 60% of of hit damage to damage you.
If you would have been 1 shot at 100% health from 100% hit damage, how will you survive a 60% hit at only 50% health?

On the other hand, if the one shot is actually a bunch of smaller hits killing you in 0.25s it would likely work a treat.

So in my opinion it will work in some situations and you will still get one shot in others

Hmm, honestly not sure. I think the biggest hang up is that most damage from bosses nowadays comes from DoT which this skill doesn't seem to do anything to protect against, and the biggest source of one shots are corpse explosions which can be prevented with corpse removal if that is an option.

If you play high recovery builds (I had some with a reliable 5k life regen), DoTs are not that scary anymore, but one-shots are...
If you're running a LL build, this skill seems like a no-brainer. I see some people talking about Agnostic but I'm pretty sure Agnostic won't help above 50% life since it says the only way to recover life above 50% is with flasks and Agnostic recovers life.

I would assume life gained on [Block/Hit] still work since they still work in a no recovery situation.

What's not clear is what the portion of incoming damage is changed to damage over time. Until we know what that portion is, it's hard to say how valuable this skill is. Maybe they explained that in one of the press releases? I don't know, I don't read each article.

Edit: I just saw that it is 40% converted to DOT at level 1. Maybe it scales up with gem level? That generally means one-shots will be worse unless it scales up over 50%. I'm back to LL builds will use this.
Thanks for all the fish!

Im pretty sure that percentages wont change with levels, most likely its going to be decreasing reservation or slightly less so- increased duration of delayed damage.

I can see this being popular on inquisitor double regen hybrid build, since on hybrid some of the life lost is not that impactful.
