IS PASTEBIN DOWN?

EVERY TIME I GO TO A POB LINK THIS IS WHAT I GET

This site can’t be reached
pastebin.com refused to connect.

Try:
Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

i really dont know what to do since a majority of the build guides now use pob and that uses pastebin so i cant import a build guide at all does any one else have this issue or is it just me?

Pastebin is up.

If you are getting the error from the Path of Building program itself, but
can access the website with your browser, there are a couple solutions that might work for you.

1) chop the "S" off the "https" address.
2) copy paste the actual content of the build from pastebin and then paste this into the box that says:
"To import a build, enter the code here:"

Some build codes require POB "fork" to work.

Hope that helps - that is about as deep as my technical knowledge of POB goes.

It might be your ISP blocking the site under the guise of "protecting" you. If you have a different browser, try that and see if it connects.

It might be dependent on who is accessing it. I was going to suggest
using a site like isitdownrightnow.com to check if the site is running or down, but their check (at https://www.isitdownrightnow.com/pastebin.com.html) seems to think the site is down and has been for over a year (380 days).

As I can clearly access Pastebin at the moment, their check is incorrect.

I have seen something similar with other websites (That I can access using one browser, but not another one). From what little I can figure out on those previous sites, the site itself is blocking some connections that it feels are from potential hackers/spammers.

Try accessing it from Chrome/FireFox/Opera or some other browsers and see if you have any luck.

I've had no issues accessing pastebin.

AFAIK, pastebin does not use any "standard" DDOS prevention often seen on some other websites to get you to enable their javascript so they can grab user data... but it certainly could refuse connections from known troublesome IPs.

If you're using TOR or a VPN, it could certainly accumulate enough hits from those to refuse connections.

Some countries do ban Pastebin and some other sites as they have been used by troublemakers to communicate anti-government messages.

It is possible some Anti-Virus could be blocking it just because it wants to show off how great it is. Check your AV and your own hosts file, just in case.

I've never experienced pastebin going down, but that's purely anecdotal.

Reporting services often get refused or can not otherwise spider/access domains because they won't shut up about it... Imagine if someone was trying to ring your doorbell every five minutes just to make sure you're home! Certain instructions could also be received by polling sites from pastebin that would prevent normal queries from accessing them for a short period of time. (ie: "Isitup, et,al" may not always be reliable.)

Some plugins, apps, etc, could put their own restrictions/blocks that could end up preventing access.

Pastebin is UP as of the time of this posting.


Note: If users of the PoB:Community Fork (The only updated PoB, now) routinely can not get pastebin links to work, someone is going to take a very close look at what has been added to Path of Building:Commmunity Fork...)

3.reset the router
4. disabled every antivirus program known to god
5.updated windows(cause why not )
6.ran antivirus software to insure no virus traces
7.litterally uninstalled chrome and cleared browsing data
8.tried the proxy settings
9.tried a static ip
10.screw it ill use poe builder instead....

Call your ISP. You are paying them for their service. They have support staff that are getting paid to support... customers. You are a customer. :) Ask them point-blank if they are blocking Pastebin. (If you're in a country that may be blocking it, and there's lists if you can get a decent websearch return and it's not also blocked, you'd have to do things that may be illegal in your country in order to access it.)

Try getting some returns from a trace-route report.

Note: When you eventually see a "Timed Out" message, that doesn't necessarily mean anything other than the node has refused to acknowledge ping requests. That's common.

You can use site names in Tracert: "Pastebin.com"

Your router could also blacklist pastebin. Router firmware is generally maintained by your ISP for manufacturers and models they support. They flash firmware remotely as needed.

A system's "hosts" file can be used to block/redirect connections. See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_(file)

You can easily read it by browsing to it with your file reader. Generally, it's going to be empty unless an antivirus program or other has altered it. (There are legit reasons for doing that. Regardless, if you see pastebin in there or the the above IPs, you know something added those entries to it and is redirecting any access to it from your system.)


You have to get as bare as possible to find out where the issue is, that's why running from the command line and checking your hosts file helps. Checking your router's security features if you find you can't get out of the local network is the next step. Once you're in the wild, if you can't connect or get responses from trace-route (tracert) then you should call your IP. If you are in a country where pastebin is blacklisted... even asking your IP about it might be dangerous for you. /shrug? You'll have to decide on that point, yourself.)

Note: If you've only ever used PoB to actually try to connect and you're sure you're pasting in a good pastebin link, then it could be PoB that's borked up or that has been altered in some way. Uninstall it, redownload, reinstall it. Only use the "Path of Building: Community Fork" version. Remember to always include the FULL link for Pastebin.

eg: "https://www.pastebin.com/########" Where "https" is a request for a secure connection, supported by pastebin, and the "####" is the pastebin text-paste page.

(Just to be sure - Do not navigate to the pastebin link, yourself, then copy and paste that data into PoB. :) ALL you need to do is paste the link to that page in PoB and PoB will read the pasted text in that page as a data file. (I had to write this because some players have tried to paste in the data manually in that box in PoB. :))

Note 2: "Connection Refused" would basically indicate something purposefully blocked your query/connection. (ie: Network/ISP/Country has blacklisted it.) But, if that error came from PoB, their own error reports could say anything... /shrug


Edit- Add: You can try starting from Windows 10 "Safe Mode" to get a clean OS Boot from which you can then troubleshoot your connection using trace-route/browsers/etc if you think an app/AV/Software could have altered something. Note that you should do this using a hardline (RJ-45 cable connection) connection to your network and not a WiFi connection as WiFi hardware might require drivers that are not inherently supported by the safe-boot environment.

so i managed to fix the problem all be it i had to litterally reinstall windows aparently there is a maleware hijack virus i looked into it and it said something in the chrome app data folder on my drive was causing this issue so i simply cloned my wifeys hard drive on her pc? and everythings fine thanks for the help and i hope that this will inform people that something with the google chrome folders/user data can cause this

I am VERY glad you found the root of that particular problem!

I don't use Chrome, because... reasons. :) Though, that may not be the ultimate cause of your infection.

At least out of all this, you've removed a potential threat.

I always recommend Malwarebytes, too: https://www.malwarebytes.com

It's free and that version, once you pass the xx days of the trial version, does not have any "resident" features. (Active malware protection) But, you can update it and run a scan on demand anytime you wish. It will still get definition updates and will occasionally update to a new trial version period. It's good, all around, and a definite "must have" in desperate situations. Very handy!

Keep your stuff updated. :) Win10's own Windows Security is good. Let it run, run it whenever you feel like it, always run it if you end up with some weird results, etc.

For browsers, Firefox with Noscript, as long as you're willing to manually configure NoScript as needed, is a pretty good way to go if you're concerned about browser security. I known nothing about Edge and wouldn't install Chrome on a dare... it's too darn talky-talky with its overlords.
