Why does POE crash so often?

Hi, does anyone understand the technical details on why POE crashes so often? I'm talking about the game in general, not specifically Heist.

I've got a pretty good system and net speed: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2950815

I'm just genuinely curious about what causes the crashes in juiced maps? Is it the amount of items on the ground? It's so mysterious to me lol

I haven't had trouble with crashing in about 3 years, but 3 years ago I had problems that I couldn't get any help with here. No one really had any reason for me, and nothing I could tell them made anything apparent. Had my machine tested and it turned out one of my memory cards had a flaw that would only show up in "weird" times... and PoE happened to hit those times. Replaced it and haven't had any trouble since.

Might not even be close to what is going wrong with you... but look for problems on your end before you accuse PoE of being at fault. Could be connection trouble. Could be a failure in your system. Could be an old operating system that needs a re-start.

There's tons of "could be"s. Don't be resistant to exploring them. It's really easy to blame someone else. I just doesn't do anything to.
Same here, one of my memory banks has an issue and somewhere around 80% memory consumption corrupted things end up on my GPU and CPU.

Most applications are pretty robust and respect that this is a real world scenario or if they don't, they at least don't crash.

PoE doesn't. The moment anything with your hardware or connection or even just file access time isn't 100% perfect, expect everything to fuck up in the worst possible way.

P.S.: I can dodge the memory issue with just staying below that 80% usage, that means no browser in the background.
Perception is reality.

Heist has crashed more then any other league for me combined. Even if you multiply other league crashes x2 and add them together, Heist still wins for crashing easily.

I have no clue why the game crashes so much even besides Heist. My suspect is the old engine that just can't handle all of the calculations for mobs, characters, etc.. the game is just extremely full of unessecary cluster**k interactions that literally anything can cause a crash.
There are too many things that can go wrong, GGG can't possibly test and fix them all.

The more stuff that gets added, I suspect the more common and often crashing will be.
Honestly? This is an 8 year old game, the code is basically an spaghetti by now with all the league contents that were added on top of it. Hopefully PoE 2 will fix this, but I'm a bit skeptical considering that is still mostly the same old engine and not really a new game at all.
Heist has been the most crash-prone league since I started playing, and it just happens out of the blue for the most part. I do notice it happens more often for me when I am trying to load a new instance to another area, but sometimes I could be chilling in my hideout or just looting a map when suddenly the whole game freezes and get completely booted out of the game with no error message. It is strange. I have a brand new gaming system as well with decent hardware/firmware/software, so I didn't expect this many hiccups.

Hope the next league is more stable.

I don't have any hard data, but here's some screenshots of the code for various zones in the game, to clue you in to what is happening in the actual code

1. Uber Elder Fight (Absence of Value and Reason):

2. Maze of the Minotaur t16:

3. t16 Reef Map (Soul of the Brine King):

Jesus, crunkeater. I never thought code could look quite so delicious.

Although that last one seems like a waste of lobster to me. How about:

...I was determined to stay out of this one too. I hate victim-blaming and I knew it'd be the first response. Glad to see the more likely culprit copped the finger though: pastagramming.

Huh. My mace dude is now an actual cultist of Chayula. That's kinda wild.
Victim blaming? Really? You can do better than that.
I'm glad one of us thinks that of the other. ^_^
