lapidary lens corrupted the gem 4 times?

AFAIK lapidary lens corrupts the gem twice; kinda like corruption chamber does to items.

However, my 20/20 gem ended up downgrading 4 times, which doesn't make much sense to me.

Quality -3% x3
Level -1 x1

Can someone explain what happened here?
Sitting in HO spamming alts for 4 hours straight is peak PoE gameplay. Thanks, Chris.

or

Quality -9% x1
Level -1 x1

Unless I’m mistaken corrupting a gem can lose up to 10% quality.

I've been playing this game for over 7 years and that never happened to me. I thought it can go from -1 to -3% per failed corrupt, not up to -10.

I can’t recall if I’ve ever had it drop below -3%, certainly never -9%. I’m guessing it’s pretty rare. I could be wrong, but I think that is more likely than you managing a 4x bad, bugged corruption.
Actually, according to Wikia's page "corruption",

"
The Lapidary Lens in Doryani's Institute (Tier 3 Gemcutter's Workshop) at the Temple of Atzoatl can be used to corrupt a gem twice. It will not roll the same outcome twice (Ex. You can't gain a level 22 skill gem using this method).

Which makes sense or else we would have at least some 22/20 on sale.

But, according to Wikia's page "Vaal orb", jewel corruption can

"

*No effect (other than adding the corrupted property).

*Add or subtract one level. Max level gems can exceed their normal maximum this way. A corrupted gem at the normal maximum will not continue to gain experience.

*Add or subtract 1-20 quality. Gems can have up to 23% quality this way.

*Change the gem to its corresponding Vaal Gem.

So...yeah, apparently when you Vaal your skill gem there is a chance it can actually lose all of its precious quality, according to Wikia. Judging by the rare outcome of a -9%, I dare say the chance for each and every of those roll happening is, luckily, not equal.

I wouldn't trust the outdated wiki though, but you might be right. This is just telling me to not gamble my items in the temple I guess (rip the stupid corruption challenge for alt. quality gems).

Where is that 3% from? Quality could always go down 10% even with regular vaal orb, no? You can get max 23%, so gain only 3%, are you confusing that?
It is so common to -10% quality

break my zombie gem and then i don't have spare yet this league...
