£4000? A fair amount for playing video games alone from home. Kopo, how much did you get?

" Rank 1 received $4059 GBP ($5418 USD) that's $677 per day for the duration of the 8 days event. Then comes per hour, he most likely averaged at least 18-20 hours per day which is around 150 hours. So, he averaged $35 USD per hour, then remove at least a dollar if they don't live in England since PayPal exchange fee will be significant given the total amount and then another dollar for anyone who didn't use GBP to donate. Now, you understand better why this is not worth for anyone who makes at least $20 USD per hour (which is most of the "casuals"), as their "prize" will be at least guaranteed, versus having to compete with 2000-3000 of the best of Path of Exile, a game that's been played for over half a million players for 7+ years. I'm not even including practice (preparation) as well as the exhaustion and other health related issues that come from lack of activity and not having a decent sleep, all to win this prize and against 2000-3000 of best of PoE. I'll let you figure what is the % of the player base that got the 45% of the prize (5% of it went to the organizers). So, you ask Phrazz, what did I get? I got a beautiful mind, beautiful enough to understand (and I am sure many others) why there is no "bank" to be made playing this game professionally. If both the event organizers as well as the company behind it want this game to be taken more seriously, then they have to do a lot more. Finally, as I already said it in my past thread, the game in its state doesn't offer a lot for one to separate from the rest (which proved again that I was right) as the top two killed all bosses and reached 99. So, they were pretty much competing about who can sleep less. Last edited by Kopogero on Aug 31, 2020, 10:08:34 PM

The race was never about "making bank"

" I think you misunderstood my intention here. PoE will never have a huge competetive scene. It's not big enough, and can't be big enough. But £4000 is still a nice chunk of money to get for doing something you find fun - as a hobby. If you're looking for a job, you're in the wrong genre. A Pv(e)P game will never be a huge spectator 'sport'. It's not suited for it, as you can't follow the action from 'one camera'. Spectators always make the sport. Without them, there's no money incentive. But everything starts out small, and I would assume people wanting the competetive scene to be bigger, would participate in the few tournaments available, and not just bash/ignore the few attempts being made. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

"Absolutely this. Many competitive scenes (especially in the past) started out small and have prize pools from the organizer's pocket(s) and/or pooled from entry fees; it wasn't always based on sponsorships like you will see for games from major publishers. |

@DoubleU and @Phrazz, with this post my trial period expired, but if you do want to continue being "educated" on your arguments PM me and I'll give you a fee (I'm not cheap).
I'll continue to socialize here from time to time for "free" or should I say for "fun", but given what I know about the upcoming expansion (league) it will most likely be the first I skip, something I haven't done in a while. The new league will surely address some of the issues and make the game better, but doubtfully it'll keep my interest for more than two weeks (if I chose to play it). I would like to be wrong though as I don't have all the info yet and they can always adjust things prior to release. Overall, I'm optimistic on what's coming to the industry and I might even play some WOW two months from now, but highly unlikely even if the game is free for me (paid off with tokens). The fact I'm considering playing WOW just shows how bad the gaming industry has been for a long time now. 2021 can't be worse than 2020-2019 etc. Last edited by Kopogero on Aug 30, 2020, 11:33:58 PM

" I guess like the rest of us, you also rate the value of your reputation to be 0. Else this would have been the perfect opportunity to get some "god mode gamer" cred in PoE. Well, at least you gave a really detailed and long excuse why you don't dare to compete. 5/10 for that post :) " Well, considering how you keep boasting about spending hardly any money on PoE even after years of playing it, I'm not ready to accept that statement as true either. Cheep cheep, SB May your maps be bountiful, exile
