Turn down all sounds in game for better game performance
I saw this in game chat and decided to try it. It actually works, i can do legion, breaches and delirium with minimal lag compare to before where my character would just freeze and die.
It doesn't help with the random crashes at least in my experience. Last edited by nightmare1100#9922 on Jul 22, 2020, 1:36:41 PM Last bumped on Jul 25, 2020, 5:13:03 AM

Not sure why this would help, but I'll try it tomorrow.

" It works because sound effects are processed by the cpu, and their is no limit to the amount of sounds played at the same time/qued to play. Thus spawning in mobs causes a large spike in usage trying to processes all the sound |

In theory it would help. In practise I don't know though.
Does turning the game down actually stop the game from making the calculations required to play the sounds or does it just not play them but still calculate them? I've toyed with this idea but I'm not convinced it makes any difference. I'll try it again though because at the moment it is a crash a map. Also, rip all the drops I'll miss without audio playing. |

while on PC, you actually have to disable sound to improve performance, I've tried this for maybe 5 hours altogether and it does actually seem to help with frame drops, mainly from first spawning into a map, Jun encounters and a couple deleriums ran a little smoother. Maybe a placebo but it seems to help, also, I left the item drop sounds on. Crashes though, just the same.

I can confirm this make a substantial difference on PS4 (original). Triggering a Legion encounter would typically drop the game to 1-2 FPS (not an exaggeration), with sound effects and ambient turned to minimum it actually ran ok, maybe 20-30 FPS, certainly far more playable. I'm actually going to run it this way all the time to see if it helps with the crashing issues too.
Suggestion: limit the number of distinct audio sounds that can trigger at once, perhaps even offer it as a tuneable option, prioritising Player > Unique > Rare > Magic > Normal audio effects should the cap be hit. This strikes me as a relatively easy fix to one of the games biggest performance problems. §:o) Last edited by Full_Dave#9999 on Jul 23, 2020, 5:29:20 PM

" Using Filterblade's loot filter; most of my (filtered) item drops (including Filterblade's default rules) still proc the drop noise so it's not so bad. §:o) Last edited by Full_Dave#9999 on Jul 23, 2020, 6:26:47 PM

" I have tried it and yes, the game is much smoother and crashes much less often. Still crashes just much less. |
