GGG doesn't answer questions like that on the forum so you will have to e-mail GGG support.

Their reply will be something like --> we don't think you should use any 3 party software, and even though it may be ok to use now will can't garentee anything..

No clear answer from the support who knows nothing and basically the game will do nothing to recognize poe overlay which is a shame therefore :/

They know...you are just not understanding the answer you are getting.

Basically addons/overlays etc are fine within a general rule set.

No automation, and nothing that harms the game (there are a few other stipulations as well...hence the email them part)

PoE overlay is NOT encouraged, most addons are not.

This is because programs change or can be changed by the user.
This is what happened to PoE overlay, it was within the rules up until the addon developer changed it, at which point is spammed the shit out of the trade API and knocked the trade sites out, causing other players issues.

GGG located the source if the issue to be a handful of people and banned soft banned them (telling them to contact support) where upon they were told to stop using the addon.

The reason came out later, and the addon creator deployed a fix to ensure that the addon would fall in-line with the rules again, the banned accounts were unbanned.

So their answer is always going to be they don't encourage you to use addons, because if they say yeah it's fine then something changes that fucks everything up and they have to ban you then you have writen confirmation that they said it was good once 10 years ago before what you are using became a hacktool.

lagwin answered that pretty thoroughly, so I won't repeat what he said. Overlays in the most basic sense is a program that puts the visual display on top of the visual display of the game. It could be nothing more than a Windows update notification.

What the program (overlay) does is what is important. See Sarno's Macro Guide to understand what macros are and are not allowed. This includes even the smallest level of automation. Otherwise the program cannot engage with the game in any way, no matter how small (note: macros that write text into chat are authorized as long as they do not also do a different action simultaneously). If the program reads exclusively from pathofexile.com/trade to see trade prices, for example, that is authorized. However as lagwin mentioned, since you as a user do not really know the specifics of a program, it may interact with the game.

In my signature I have an outdated list of various overlays in my signature. I once believed each to be in compliance with GGG's ToS, but I am no longer maintaining it due to lack of community interest. Most are likely still fine however.

Edit: I would not recommend the actual addon PoE Overlay.
There are simply too many aspects that are borderline in my opinion. All it takes is one you may not even be using for GGG to ban your account.

Then Poe Trademacro , Mercury trade or Awakened poe trade are forbidden too? :(
