'Down For Maintenance' notification links to self
Thread was originally posted in bug reports, and tagged as a website bug (because it is a report of a bug with the web site...message says: 'Site is down, click this link for more information.' User clicks link. message says: 'Site is down, click this link for more information. ' User clicks li...wait a minute...).
Because this was moved into the feedback and suggestions forum I thought I should rephrase it to fit a feedback and suggestions format. Please keep in mind it was not my original intention to provide feedback or suggestions about this issue. This post was a simple report of something that was either not working correctly or was at least not working as indicated. Original post intact below. Feedback: It is frustrating when:
Suggestion(s):
Original post: tldr Description: When website is down for maintenance it displays a notification stating that users can check the website for more information. /trollface -_- Description: When the game goes down for patching or similar the website (including forum) goes into a 'maintenance mode' where every page displays the same output with a message stating "Down For Maintenance" and a few recent announcements. Sometimes an announcement states something along the lines of, "We're currently deploying the patch. Please check the forum for the full patch notes." Yet the post containing the patch notes is completely unavailable for viewing and instead just displays the 'maintenance mode' messages, including the one linking to the patch notes post. The following screenshot shows this 'maintenance loop' from the most recent maintenance downtime (note: URL in address bar is same as URL in the announcement): Last edited by SirGuySW#7930 on Jul 3, 2020, 2:38:35 PM Last bumped on Nov 16, 2020, 11:29:28 PM

For what it's worth: I've updated my post to include a version that is more 'Feedback and Suggestions' toned. Though I find it disheartening that redirecting users in an endless loop isn't considered a bug (more feedback I guess).

I still find it mind boggling that this is 'working as intended.'
Scenario (not hypothetical, this just happened): I'm in-game playing 'inventory management'. The realm goes down for maintenance (with no prior in-game warning; /dnd apparently also blocks critical system messages like, "server shutdown imminent"). I visit the Patch Notes forum for more information about this maintenance. The page says that the site is down for maintenance. It displays some (twitter?) news posts with a link to patch notes. I click the link. A forum page loads in a new tab ...
... etc. |

"Happened again, minus the in-game bits. Came here from GGGtracker looking for news. Page said down for maintenance, click here for news. Clicked. Page said down for maintenance, click here for news...etc. |

There is prior warning, for at least 30 minutes before the servers go down it is put in chat more than once.
If there is no warning then it is because there was a game breaking emergency downtime. If the servers go down for a patch then the site goes with it, and usually when you click on the link to come here it has a twitter feed at the top. Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi

" "In any case, I'm not sure how in-game messages are really relevant to how the site works (or doesn't when it's down for maintenance). Again, the site says it's down for maintenance and provides a link for users to obtain additional information. However, the link results in the same 'down for maintenance' page. The whole process is not very user friendly. It provides no way for users to obtain information. The 'click here for more info' message is at best misleading and possibly (unintentional) trolling, certainty not helpful. |
