How are 6-links evaluated?

I've only recently played enough to have obtained a corrupted 6-link staff.

From my understanding, corrupted items are not able to be changed so it devalues the item? I'm still not sure how 6-links can be sold or how items are evaluated by the community in the hardcore leagues.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, congrats on a nice item!

To value a 6 link, you can look at:
- The mods it has - rare, top tier mods are worth more
- The sockets - off colour sockets are worth more
- Yes, corrupted items cannot be changed, so you are stuck with the socket colours, but sometimes corrupted mods are really good.
- You can also search on a trade site (poe.trade) - put in some of your items stats and see what similar items are selling for.

This 6 link, with those colours and mods would only suit niche builds, so it wouldn't be worth all that much at the end of a league. Under 30C at the moment.
You can change sockets with crafting bench. It just costs tons of vaal orbs.

Hi, thanks for the explanation!

When searching in poe.trade, do I use the same base item and put the same item mods?

Basically, you should use only relevant mods for the filter, like say for example if you trying to sell some fire staff, the relevant ones will be +level of gems (or fire gems), %fire damage, %spell damage, %fire as extra chaos, maybe spell crit chance/multiplier and so on; putting there say some +physical damage to attacks or that shiny 5 dexterity would be pointless in that case. Number of sockets/links and sometimes colors are relevant too of course.

Speaking of the staff you posted, its trade "worth" is about a divine orb, as it's something equal to a tabula rasa with +1 level of fire gems.

Aren't tabula rasas with a +1 level of fire gems much more expensive than 1 divine orb since it requires corrupting it? This is the only item I could find.

I'm pretty sure my find isn't as great since it's not all white sockets but I'm getting more confused about how items are evaluated.

Also, if it's only worth a divine should I just be vendoring it?

Thanks!

Taking up the chest slot is generally less detrimental than taking up the weapon slots. Really the only thing keeping the price of your staff on par with a tabula (as opposed to less than one) is that both can be vendored for a divine orb.
Thanks @Gravedancer, that definitely makes sense.

Corrupted tabulas usually come from the set of cards named "vanity", sometimes the corruption is pretty useless and then it's basically worth a divine orb, sometimes the corruption can be something that helps you level faster (40% increased damage, + to some type of gems) and then it's worth more.

Your staff requires lvl 68 so it's not useful at low level, contrary to a tabula (and few other uniques that have no level requirement or low one so people buy them to speed up new characters), also tabula thanks to "white sockets" allows you to play with any skill or even change it on the fly as you unlock new gems while levelling, that's why it's so convenient.
