Baldurs gate 3 revealed

So I've seen the gameplay and trailer reveal of bg3. If someone didnt tell me the name of the game I would totally say its Divinity original sin 3, but its baldurs gate 3, made by larian.

It will feature full turn based combat, going in a different direction from previous games which used real time with pause, also, no more isometric view like pillars/tyranny and other games of genre. Rather, they are going for free camera.

Dialogue screens will look more like skyrim/fallout/witcher than classical window, which tells me that there will be maybe less text on screen as sacrifice for probably all npcs having a voiceover and some dialogue fully animated/rendered.

Now, I don't have any doubts that the game itself will be awesome, I played countless hours in divinity original sin games, but I have worries about the question, will baldurs gate keep its identity?

From little that I could see, game screams to me that it is divinity, while only setting, that being enemies/npcs/items/spells/abilities/calculations is D&D based. So it looks like a case of more things being D&D under the hood, while outer layer of product looks like a divinity game.

I will play it and pass it for sure, but I'm really afraid of losing that baldurs gate feeling that I'm all too familiar with and that it will feel just like another modern rpg with borrowed setting to boost its initial sales, regardless of larian developer talent.

I have no lack of games to play nowadays, didnt pass pathfinder yet and over the years it got expanded enormously. Reddit and some forums are all in uproar due to the reveal, basically dividing the community into 2 big halves. Before judgement is made, I will of course wait and first pass the game upon its release and then decide if I should feel bad or not. Until then, hope for more reveals from developers.

Goes to show how little flexibility these guys have. They can only make Divinity games.
I'm a huge fan of Baldur's Gate and what I saw really pleased me. D&D is turn based, the old live action style with a pause system was a turn based systeme in desguisement. Making it entirely turn based is a good idea.

I am very eager to try BG3
What a joke, really.

I thought the same. The easiest way to fix this would be changing the GUI. Lean it closer to BG2. No need for real time fights, even as late as nwn2:motb it felt clunky. Hopefully most the dialogues will be fully voiced, as it was done in D:OS2.
The game should not be a clone of BG2 in better graphics(which most people say they want) but currently it is way to much like their own product divinity. Hopefully they get that old flair into their game.

They've literally made Divinity games since the 2000s and nothing else. Of course it will be another Divinity and I don't blame them for that. If they try something else it wont be of the same quality. Me not liking the Divinity franchise is subjective, objectively thats what they are best at.

They changed the combat system compared to divinity as far as i can tell, now you have group turn combat rather then individual turn based.

I like that, in divinity it could be tedious so i think this will both smooth combat out and allow far more complex combo actions in your group.

As far as i can tell they are simply making a game based on the D&D rule-set in a baldurs gate setting, so i can understand the people who dislike it and the people that like it.
But from what has been revealed so far it looks like a tremendous amount of fun, can't wait to try and solo the game with a rogue and play with that pauze function to abuse stealth.

Anyway i'm partial to them since i live three streets away from the main office so i will probably buy it just out of support and maybe find a way to sneak in and get some autographs on my copy.

I still remember them being a little start-up so im glad they got this far and delivered solid tittles which most people i talk to agree are good even if they dislike the genre.

Peace,

I really hated Divinity. It was sooooo slooooow. But I have finished. There was many great things, but tempo was aweful. Without speed mod I wouldnt finish.

I have uninstalled Divinity 2 after na hour.

And now they do BG3 that will be played like Divinity. Why, just why... It will be divinity game with Baldurs Gate lore.. Just why... Sad..

So you would never have played BG1 or 2 anyway? Because they are in no way faster than divinity.

Yes, those games are much faster - you could set up in options speed of game. I dont remember if I was using also mod to make it even faster.
