Some people are upset about the Custom Game legalese, and to them I think: honestly, what were you expecting? Get real.
But that trailer vs gameplay? That was a mild surprise. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

On its face, there's nothing wrong here with what Blizzard did - They created a promo, put in a disclaimer, then the actual gameplay doesn't resemble the promo very much. No problem... What did everyone expect?
But, Blizzard can't copyright an "idea." Nobody can copyright an "idea." They've used too strong a language to attempt to enforce their IP protections. OK, I understand that. But, they've gone so far as to lay a claim to a modder's cat. Taken at face value, if a modder's cat had anything to do with creating a "mod" using Warcraft's assets, the mere idea of that modder's cat is now covered by Blizzard's "copyright protections." Anything that uses Blizzard's assets is rightfully Blizzard's. Or, at the very least, they have legitimate copyright protections concerning their own work. Any of their original work is theirs, pure and simple. Anything that uses their original work is something they have legitimate copyright claims against. But... "ideas" are not the exclusive domain of Blizzard's copyright agreements and for them to suggest that they are is insulting. They're butthurt over DoTA... Well, they screwed up and lost that battle a long time ago. Tough noogies. Now, there's an entire genre of games that are making gamers very happy and are employing a bajillion peoples who are able to feed themselves and put shoes on the feet of their children. Don't let Blizzard take your cat away. Don't let Blizzard keep you from getting a job, feeding your family, or keeping your kid's feet warm. Do not click "Accept" on any more of Blizzard's EULAs. |

"It's 100% predictable that Blizzard would and will have DOTA Derangement Syndrome for this game and for the foreseeable future. This should surprise absolutely no one. I mean, I don't like to go heavy on the political analogies (here, anyway), but getting all upset about Warcraft 3 Reforged's EULA is like getting all upset about MSNBC saying disparaging things about President Trump. I get that communities will still form to get upset about the EULA in much the same way that a majority of Breitbart articles are just pointing out anti-Trump remarks so their audience can get their panties in a twist about it. But it's basically partisan hate porn, just getting upset about the patently obvious for the sole purpose of getting upset. Actiblizz gonna Actiblizz. Make your peace with it. Nobody's making you buy from them. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. They have a good reason to be butthurt considering how Heroes of the Storm turned out.

hots is actually an ok and fun game, problem is blizzard butchering it with killing the pro scene and lack of marketing, otherwise it could have been as big as overwatch, but someone high up didn't want to risk it.
Blizzard can release a superb game, but they will eventually ruin it with their incompetence and weird decisions source: playing hots since alpha, almost 4.5k games And yes, it has its downsides, but which moba today doesn't. Spreading salt since 2006

" They genuinely couldn't have made a more dumbed down moba if they actually tried. It's okay for the people who have never played a moba before / suck at the two major ones on the market, but trying to play hots after years of league and dota 2 is physically painful. Lets just say I'm glad they lost the legal battle with valve over the IP. Souls along a conduit of blood, from one vessel to the next.

I cant even bring myself to play dota2.
It's a retarded version of the original and im pretty sure people don't even realize if they don't have experience with the former. I played wc3 when people like grubby, ToD and lucifer were dominating the pro scene and played some matches against them back then and regular dota already felt "easy" in comparison to high level wc3 itself. So dumbing it down even further, well i don't see how people can find it enjoyable when there is a complete lack of skill and mastery involved. Also scrotie, hate porn, tempted to do a search on that because people fascinate me and it seems entirely counter-intuitive but we do live in a fetish society... Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

" Very true! But, they haven't exactly endeared themselves with the general gaming community lately. This is just one of those moves that piles on top of all the existing bad sentiment. According to them, I have to give up my "moral Rights" to... Hold up. WTF is "Moral Rights?" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moral_rights So, you can't make a game with the stuff they give you where Valve's Gabe Newell busts out of wall and shouts "Oh Yeah" while roflstomping little Diablo dudes and then rips open a chest and steals a DOTA box before running off the screen as the sound of hard currency drops in the background... WTF! That would disparage Blizz and they would sue based on you saying bad things and making them sad. Those "Warcraft III Refunded" memes with the logo? If those creators copy/pasted the logo from "in game" after having clicked "I acceptlolz" from the Warcraft III menu? Well, Blizzard can sue them now for a breech of that agreement. Anyway... I find it fairly hilarious. I don't have any interest in WC3 nor making mods for it. I don't know that I care much about Diablo IV should it ever float to the top of the bowl, either. I used to. But, there's just too much out there to be interested in these days for me to care. But, everybody loves a good ol' fashioned ActiBlizz roast! ;) |
