How to upgrade essences?

There is an "Upgrade" button in my Essences stash tab, but it does nothing. I could not figure out how to use it. How it works (if).

Upgrading is a 3 for 1 process. (And only goes one way.) When you click the button, it will highlight any where you have 3 and could upgrade to the next higher. You then click individually to make the specific upgrades you want.
