Updating every patch with steam takes forever

As per topic. Not sure if its just me or does anyone else face similar situations? No matter the size of the updates it often takes an hour or so. Mainly due to this "preallocation , reserving space" thing. I have 60 gig available space on my SSD. All my other games on steam takes seconds - minutes tops to update no matter the size. Just POE. Can anybody explain this? As i have googled and tried a couple methods but they all don't seem to work.


PS: The problem only started since the start of metamorph league previously was fine and smooth.

Same here, unfortunately. Samsung 850 evo ssd and 1000Mbps download speed and a 18 MB update takes like 10-15 minutes.

Yep, totally fed up with it now.

Also isn't auto-updating, even though it's set to it, and high-priority. I have been sitting here with the computer on for about 2 hours, then I click to play the game and it starts updating / allocating / new 3.2 gig update. sigh.

Time to go back to standalone client, it seems.

The game has now reached ~30 gigs, and unpacking and repacking and allocation every day for, what is usually just, small patches is pretty annoying.

Yeah, you might be on to something because this never bothered me before, and I have played every league since the beginning.

Its a problem with steam update and the huge PoE data file, wich is 30gb.

Steam update system wasnt designed to update one huge file, so it ends up being a slow process. It also makes a backup of this 30gb file so if the update isnt finished or is corrupted you dont end up having to redownload the whole game.

Unless GGG changes the big file to a bunch of small files there is nothing us or steam can do.

Edit: This is an old problem, its happening to me for a few leagues now, its not metamorph bug.

Thing is this only started happening ever since metamorph. But today by some miracle it managed to patch 3.9.1 in like 10 mins (which is what i am used to since betrayal league) instead of hours.

And we are back. 31.2MB PATCH TAKING 2 AND HALF HOURS AND MORE. FFS. Can someone from GGG/Steam give an answer to this. If its so difficult every patch just suggest to everyone to stop using steam altogether.
