[3.8] Become Thor! - CoC Ball Lightning Mjölner Elementalist (over 4mil DPS)
Ever wanted to become Thor? With the recent changes, it's very much viable! Mjölner now has 150ms internal cooldown, just like Cast on Crit. This means we'll be spamming both our socketed lightning skill in the weapon, as well as our lightning spells socketed into the armour. Due to lots of life items synergizing well with this build, I've chosen a life-based build. Gearing is quite free with the build, apart from the two necessary uniques. Most similar builds focus around golems to boost their damage. We're focusing on survivability and pure damage. We also utilize dual curses, of which one is applied via 0% mana reserved blasphemy. Our high shock chance and increased shock effect allow us to shock even T16 bosses, which makes life much easier. PROS: - FUN! - Fast clear - High EHP - Decent life leech for a spell-based build - Extremely high shock and crit chance = a lot of explosions - Sails through lvl 250 delves - Ele-reflect immune CONS: - Base stat-dependent (high STR/INT requirement) - Low global defenses (armour, evasion) - Hurts if you get hit - Can't face-tank end-game content - Flask-dependent - Can struggle against some high-tier bosses - CAN'T DO BLIGHTED MAPS Playstyle: It's pretty straight-forward. Leap onto a pack for an instant nuke (aoe means that each mob in the pack triggers our weapon skill + chest skill if we crit). The rest you just cyclone away in style. This character has become my number one Elder Burial Chambers farmer. It's extremely fast and satisfying to play. Current gear, links and gear choice explanation: Links in items, up-to-date.

Notable mechanics: - Cyclone instantly proccs inspiration in our body armour, synergizing well with CoC Arc/CoC Wave of Conviction - Since we deal high amounts of lightning damage, our Wave of Conviction will always procc lightning exposure - We're using Vaal Arc in CoC setup for increased clear, increased shock chance, and massive AoE for delves or Legion encounters. - Decided to go with another golem for that slight damage boost instead of Confluxes. - Herald of Thunder is linked with Culling Strike for boss encounters. Our primary items are Inpulsa's and Mjölner. They synergize extremely well and work especially well in a life-based build. Our secondary most important item is the shield with +1 to all lightning spell skill gems. It boosts our all active skills: including the curse and auras. Apart from the raw damage boost from +1 to gems, we also get a ton of spell crit, some spell damage and life/res. If I had a replacement ready, I'd try to annul one of the less important stats and craft something better. Then it's all optional how you want to gear yourself; in my case I went with Crown of the Tyrant for a raw life and damage boost, Impresence with free conductivity, Windshriek for +1 to curses and a ring with curse on hit for further damage boost. A regular metallic-fossil crafted shaped helmet will definitely also work (-9 to nearby enemies' lightning resistance). Since I didn't want to waste passives on stats, I went with 15% Cyclopean Coil. Another interesting option is dual wielding. A great example would be a sceptre with +1 to spell gems and +1 to lightning spells. This would give you a massive damage boost. A cheaper alternative is It synergizes well with our build and grants us a lvl 21 arcane surge on regular basis. With arcane surge up, you exceed the damage a +1 shield/weapon would grant (you sacrifice potential life and resistances, though). Plans for the future: Crafted Shaped Opal Ring with resistances to cap me out on 75% with life on hit for spells. It's an extremely important stats for Ball Lightning, as it will heal you xLife every 150ms every mob hit. "I am quite rich" gear build:

Another interesting setup worth considering:

Those 4 items synergize extremely well. Since shock can be applied to you, but you are unaffected by it, you get more consistent, massive explosions. Additionally you get a guaranteed max. damage shock onto bosses if you have your flask up. You do need to play around with passives, gems and items to cap resists, though, as it becomes much harder without a proper belt. Also, I found out how incredibly broken lightning strike is. Since it still counts as an attack, each hit will send out additional 3 balls. You essentially fill the entire area with balls for massive AoE and leech. It's also a nice eye-candy.
