I cant figure out how to corrupt essence on the ps4

So I standing next to e trapped essence and I have a Remnant I want to corrupt that monster to get a better one but when i click on use it only allows me to use on stuff in the inventory....

I think you might be mixing it up. It sounds like you found a Remnant of Corruption in an essence monster.

You need to have the essence you get from those guys in your inventory, then you use it on a normal one to corrupt it.

When you have a Remnant in your player inventory, if you stand next to the monster and hit triangle instead of X, it will auto apply the corruption since there is only one currency type it doesn't open inventory.
You will see the monster's status has changed to corrupted.
I have not applied the corruption that instantly frees the monster... yet.
I have applied lots of corruption and it is STILL confusing, because I fear the auto-free monster corruption so I dash away and nothing happens. Then I open my inventory and the remnant is gone. Then I notice the monster's stats indicate it is now corrupted.

EDIT: Also Remnant of corruption cannot be made, they can only be found.
