Upgrading affixes and suffixes?

Yo everyone!
I got a guestion for you ppl who know a bit more about the game than i do.. ;P

So is it possible to upgrade a item suffix or prefix to higher tier?

As an example, i got a chainmail with "7% increased strength" and its tier 2 suffix or prefix(dunno which one), so can i just alt it untill i get the tier one version of that ( 8-12% inc. str), or does it just roll around between 6-8% ??

Coudnt find any other posts about this, so plz help out! thanks! ^^

Wich tier of an affix an item can roll, depends on the itemlevel. (Note that the itemlevel is NOT the same as the level requirement for equipping the item.)

With alterations you don't "upgrade" or" downgrade" affixes - you, well, alter them. That means that affixes and affixtiers after using an orb of alteration are totally independant from the affixes, wich the item had before.

Hence, if the itembase has a high enough itemlevel for the highest tier of your desired affix,you in principle can hit it with alteration-spam. (Some t1 affix-rolls can be very rare though, occuring only every couple of hundreds of alterations.)

Divine Orbs only roll within a given affix tier.
