GeForce NOW Support For Lootfilter

GeForce NOW (GFN) is a cloud gaming service currently in its beta stage, though it has support for many popular games. POE is one which is not only supported by GFN, but is actually a featured game when you first run the program. Despite the official support for POE on GFN, there is one major issue: Loot filters other than the "Default" one are completely unavailable for use with this service.

For many, POE is too intense to run on the pc available to them, and in my case POE and my cpu do not mix well. It is not a hardware issue, it is something that happens solely when playing POE - Destiny 2, Rainbow Six Siege and other games do not bring my cpu temps near what POE does (8th Gen i5 8300H CPU, GTX 1050ti 4GB GPU for anyone wondering).

However, POE runs amazing on GFN - every single setting maxed maintains max fps, latency (for me, anyways) dropped by >75% (60-70 ms on Washington DC realm running POE on my pc v.s. a consistent 11 ms on the same realm through GFN), many of the seemingly random / uncaused lag issues do not really appear, and all you need is a decent internet connection. This is great and all until you try to do any content outside of basic mapping and the campaign, when the lack of a custom loot filter really shows. This lack of support for loot filters has been an ongoing issue with GFN for a long time, and there are countless threads around the internet (including Reddit and the nvidia forums) with people affected by this. To give an idea of what people have said:

I'm ready to pay for GeforceNOW just for Path of Exile but without any loot filter this game is unplayable.

"...I am very sorry, but I am afraid that the case is beyond their support possibilities.
In this situation, there are attempts to contact and change the situation with the game and the structure of its files directly on the game's publisher."

my response from Geforce support
(I was in a live chat session with their support less than one year ago and they did not say any of this - they told me they would give the feedback to their team and look into it)

The game is unplayable without loot filter, the game will be dead soon on GFN.

Adding the NS filters to the game by default will solve the problem for Geforce Now players fairly easily.
Thank you!

I brought this up on the POE forums because based on the utter lack of support and response from nvidia, GGG can implement a solution on their end. Not only would GGG be helping out a lot of people in their fanbase, but they would gain many potential customers who are not able to play as of right now.

Edited for much needed clarity and structure.

Despite tons of threads about this issue on reddit, nvidia forums, and poe forums, there has still been nothing done about this for YEARS. Adding a few default filters has already been done for consoles, and there is already one built in for pc. So many more people would use geforce now and would play poe if this support was added - it is an absolute win win situation for both companies. Personally, playing poe on my laptop heats my cpu to 95+ degrees C, and as a result causes so much lag in endgame content - I know myself and many many others would truly appreciate support being added for a few more loot filters being available by default so we can use geforce now. Support, please consider this as it has been an issue for an extremely long time and is such a simple fix.

If you're getting temps that high is probably because you have hardware problems or you're putting your laptop on a blanket or something that doesn't let air flow.....

Geforce Now has nothing to do with your laptop overheating so idk why you put the two together

The whole point of "Geforce Now" is for people on Mac's to play games without needing to run a windows partition.

Mac's are not made for gaming, and therefore will preform terribly on video games

Nvidia is also planning to charge people for that service, its not free

You're better off saving that money to upgrade your system

And then you talk about filters?????

You do know you can custom make your own filter and there are hundreds of filters available for download?

You just drop the filter file in the Documents/POE folder

POE doesnt need more default filters, get off your lazy butt and go find some

The OPs post is a little bit messy but the subject and the point of it is quite clear.

PoE is a supported game on GeForce Now and it's problematic to play PoE that way without the ability to use a "better" filter then default.
Just switching the default filter for the PC client to Neversinks would be enough to resolve this in other words, the same that GGG did for xbox/ps4.

On a tangent..

Both GeForce Now and Google Stadia has the potential to become quite large since they both addresses the need of having a real beefy machine to enjoy AAA games in full glory.

So take the OPs problem with having a subpar (read potato) laptop. GFN solves that issue quite nicely, yes sure it will cost a monthly fee but OP doesn't need to bother with memory, SSD or if the GFX card needs to be updated. All that hassle is just gone! In short it helps the "I just want to play!!" people.

So yeah..... lots of people having performance issues with PoE would probably have a much nicer experience if they used GFN instead.
Meh

I dont buy into that b.s. with GeForce Now

I think I understand what OP was referring to after looking into GeForce Now

If you go on their website it states that its in "Beta"

So I wouldn't expect much for them to add loot filters for POE

Nor do I. Just the maintainance would be a nightmare for them so no, not gona happen that way.

Only way it's gona happen is if GGG adds it.
Either they outright replace it or as a predefined dropdown menu (default/neversink/custom)

Snip.

I've updated my original post to make more sense and to flow more logically.

But to your first reply:

1. The temperatures I experience with POE are due to not a hardware issue. I can play more intense / newer games and my cpu does not reach 95+ deg C - it is only with poe, and I always play with fanboost on and with my laptop elevated off of my desk for better airflow.

2. GeForce NOW is not designed specifically for mac users. If that were the case, I would not have gotten beta access on a windows pc. Designing this only for macs would not even make sense, as there are countless people who are on the go more than they are not and having a gaming capable pc is simply not always feasible. This service would be geared towards them as well. (One of the first posts regarding this issue that I read had people talking about this, but I can't find it now)

3. I don't remember ever saying that it was free?

4. See updated post please.

I was looking to play the new league on PC using Geforce now.

Can they just add the same loot filters that they have on Xbox??? These work fine!!! Without a loot filter the game is unplayable and I believe geforce now will open up a large new player base for PoE.... My PC can't handle the requirements of PoE so I'd have no choice but to go back to Xbox.

you can add lootfilter to your account from poe website and then it became avaible on ui panel in game
What I don't understand is how OP doesn't get that his latency wouldn't be any better... yeah, you may be connecting to Geforce NOW at a location closer to one of the POE servers, which means it'll show as low as 11ms latency, but the latency between you and the Geforce NOW terminal will still be as high as the you had before... the distance doesn't get any shorter, you know... you're also still on the same ISP and the same network so...

Okay, technically the routing/hops going through Geforce NOW first could be better, but could just as well could be worse. I don't really see how any of this proves that Geforce NOW is so amazing, because it's not. It's a cool concept, gaming on remote desktop, but especially a game like POE (or shooters) that rely on literally split second inputs at times, I can't see it ever taking off in more than the super casual gaming scene.
