Inspiration Support and Minions

Hey,

I wanted to use my Animate Guardian to generate Inspiration charges for me by having Supreme Grandstanding on my character and giving my animated guardian a pair of Doedre's Malevolence.

Infortunately my animated guardian didn't gain any Inspiration charges for me to gobble up. I tried giving him a sword that was corrupted to have "Gain a frenzy charge after spending 200 mana" and sure enough he was getting frenzy charges meaning he was spending mana auto-attacking just as a player character would while wearing Doedre's Malevolence, he just wasn't getting any effect from being linked with the Inspiration Support.

I've also tried Inspiration Support with a couple of spectres and other minions and so far I haven't been able to find a minion that can have Inspiration charges. I'm guessing minions in general simply can't have them at the moment.

Hope this is a bug, was a real bummer to learn about this so soon after rerolling due to this shit :(

I would imagine it's correct that at the moment minions just can't get inspiration charges.

I know for blink/mirror arrow illusions, they can gain void charges. I'm assuming that this is due to the wording of Voidfletcher "5 Maximum Void Charges" which makes it seem like the ability to gain charges is linked to the item itself.

Meanwhile Inspiration doesn't have any line similar to this, which means it was likely coded to be something the player could have, and then just overlooked for minions. It does seem, looking at your other post, that a lot of the new supports, were never tested out with some of their slightly more niche minion cases.
Right that's probably the issue. They're effectively capped at 0 inspiration charges. I hope GGG sees fit to give minions a base amount of Inpiration charges some time.

Now that you mention Voidfletcher though, I'm sure there's anotheer meme build there somehow :3

Seems kind of obvious to me, inspiration does support the minion skill (meaning you cast the minion and spent mana, you get charges), it is not linked to the skills the minion uses and therefore can't give the minion nor you charges.

Most other supports add something to the total minion stats (not unlike map stats: gain 2 projectiles, have chain, more damage, more life etc..., but inspiration does only work closely with the used skill (of the minion) but can never be linked. ... so .. working as intended.

Other perks with different functions can come from items, but event those have limitations, like triggered skills, which don't work.
I don't know about that.

Seems like
"Gain an Inspiration Charge when you Spend Mana for Supported Skills"
is pretty similar to other supports that work with minions like:
"Gain an Endurance Charge when you Stun an Enemy with a Melee Hit from Supported Skills"

Yahira, that was my first thought, that the gem was linking just to the guardian, but not to the skills it was using. Then I remembered that things like Spell Echo will work for Spectres, and in Mokihiki's other post, Infernal Legion was (partially) effecting the SRS of his summon spectres.

This could mean though, that spectres are the only minion that will have it's spells supported by the linked support gems, and it won't work with Animate Guardian. Even in that case, he has tried Inspiration on spectres and it didn't have any effect, so it's definitely bugged in some way.
As per the latest patch notes, they have cleared up that minions can not generate inspiration charges.

Updated the description of the Inspiration Support gem to clarify that Minions, Totems, Traps and Mines cannot gain Inspiration Charges

A bit disappointing but oh well.
