3.8 Update
Berserker
- War Bringer now grants you and nearby allies 20% increased attack speed if you've warcried recently (from 10%). Now grants 15% chance to deal double damage if you've warcried in the past 8 seconds. No longer causes you and nearby allies to deal increased damage if you've warcried recently. - Flawless Savagery now grants 50% increased critical strike chance for attacks (from 80%), and +25% to critical strike multiplier (from +30%) - Crave the Slaughter no longer grants 1% chance to deal double damage per 4 Rage. Ancestral Call Support - Now deal 19% less damage at gem level 1 (from 25%), up to no penalty at gem level 20 (from 16% less). In summary, 3.8 update doesn't affect the build much. Some part receives buff and some gets nerf. To update the Path of Building tree, simply click convert to 3.8.
3.9 Update
Monster Resistance and Life
- In general monsters have more resistances than before; a regular map boss now has 40% elemental resistance (up from 30%) and boss like the Shaper now has 50% elemental resistance (up from 40%. - The life of all unique monsters in the game has been increased by 10%. On top of this, map Boss Life has been greatly increased at the highest tier of maps. Character - Fortify's damage reduction effect is now multiplicative with other similar effects. In summary, boss encounter will be harder and the changes in 3.9 that affect this build also affect pretty much any elemental build or build that uses Fortify. To update the Path of Building tree, simply click convert to 3.9. Welcome, exile. Do you like explosion? Do you mainly play melee build? Do you prefer playstyle of hit once hit hard? If you answer yes to any of these questions then this may be something you looking for to play. Pros and Cons + Satisfying melee playstyle + Surprisingly very durable + One strike to blow pack of monsters + Great mapper and boss killer + Built in 6-link weapon + Weapon can be used from level 2 to endgame + Capable to do all endgame content + No gemswap + Flexible gear choices + Did I mention explosion? - Negative resistance mod, elemental weakness mod map is dangerous - No leech or regen mod is doable but annoying - Cannot do elemental reflect map mod - Not a beginner friendly - Not cheap but not expensive either Oni-Goroshi Oni-Goroshi is one of the most unique weapon in the game. It has very low base damage, but gain additional added physical damage as you level. At level 90 this sword have 700dps with it's unique buff; Her Embrace. At maximum roll, the sword have the second highest base critical strike chance out any swords in the game, from 8.5% up to 9.5%. The sword comes with six sockets and fully linked but uses both hand slots. What it means, you can't use shield or offhand weapon and it doesn't count as two-handed weapon. The weapon doesn't scale from two-handed or dual-wield passives either. Her Embrace You gain Her Embrace buff for 3 seconds whenever you ignite an enemy. It grants the following effects; Cannot be Stunned, 123% of Sword Physical as Extra Fire Damage, Unaffected by Burning Ground, Immune to Freeze, Chill and Ignite and 20% increased Attack, Cast and Movement Speed. Insane buff right? However this buff does not come without a drawback. While in Her Embrace, we degen 0.5% of Total Maximum Life and Energy Shield as Fire Damage per second per level. This damage does not count as ignite but affected by fire resistance. Her Embrace buff can be removed by unequipping or switching the weapon. This is useful in no regen map mod. Ignite The build does not work without ignite and by default only fire damage is able to inflict ignite unless you use Three Dragons helmet with cold damage but this is not the case here. Infernal Blow converts half of physical damage to fire damage, and another half can be converted with Avatar of Fire from Xoph's Blood. Critical strikes have 100% chance to ignite so with 60-80% effective critical chance we can consistently ignites enemy. Infernal Blow Debuff When the attack made with Infernal Blow hits an enemy, it applies two debuffs: the first debuff can stack up to six times and creates an explosion that deals damage based on your weapon damage when it reaches full charges or when it expires. Great against endgame boss and tougher rare monsters. The second debuff causes the enemy to create an explosion that deals damage scaling with its maximum life when it dies. This is the reason to play Infernal Blow, the explosion is an art. It deals area damage and effectively act as "melee splash" for clearing.
Why Berserker?
Speed, more damage and defensive recovery. While Chieftain may look like the obvious ascendancy candidate for this build, Berserker offers something more versatile with mana leech, instant 1900+ life recovery with 2 seconds cooldown, Rage buff on hit and a lot more. Aspect of Carnage gives 40% more Damage with a drawback of having 10% increased Damage taken. It is the highest damage multiplier from a single passive in the game. War Bringer can heal 25% life and mana (up to 1900 life with current setup) instantly with 2 seconds cooldown making it useful tool depending on what kind of challenge you facing. It is very effective against Chimera's smoke phases, Uber Elder, Labyrinth's traps and Delve's darkness. Not to mention using Enduring Cry as a warcry of choice also boosts defensive capability greatly. With 3.8 update War Bringer now grants 15% chance to deal double damage if you've warcried in the past 8 seconds. Crave the Slaughter grants the build the ability to gain Rage on Hit and enables the use of Berserk when fighting endgame bosses. Flawless Savagery increases critical strike chance for attacks by 50%, +25% to critical strike multiplier and it adds 20-30 flat physical damage when you've dealt critical strike recently. As we consistently deal critical damage, the uptime should be high. Pain Reave solves the mana leech problem and grants 25% Attack Speed when hit. It also boosts +1300 Life Leech/On Hit Rate totaling to 2000 with current setup. Passives Tree 37 Points 74 Points 111 Points Ascendancy In order of Labyrinth difficulty; Pain Reaver > Crave the Slaughter > Flawless Savagery > Aspect of Carnage/War Bringer Bandit Save Alira for +5 mana regen, +15% elemental resistance, +20% critical strike multiplier Pantheon Soul of Araakali (Major God) and Soul of Ralakesh (Minor God) Complete all the upgrades, this is important as both pantheon gives great defensive bonus.

Current Gear
Weapon & Armour Explanation
Oni-Goroshi Look for the highest Critical Strike Chance you can afford. Do not buy corrupted sword unless it has the right color; 5 red sockets 1 green socket. Rare Helmet Armour based with 90+ life, "Nearby Enemies have -9% to Fire Resistance". Best enchantment; 15% of Infernal Blow Physical Damage gained as Extra Fire Damage > 40% increased Infernal Blow Damage. Alternative unique : Starkonja's Head Kaom's Heart Best armour for this build, adds up to +1500 life depending on your tree. Best corruption; +1% to all maximum Resistance > x% reduced Fire Damage taken. If you prefer rare body armour for extra sockets, look for +150 life, +% maximum hp, +1500 armour, Attacks have +% to Critical Strike Chance. Alternative unique : Belly of the Beast, Craiceann's Carapace (Replace Bleed Immunity flask with Shock Immunity flask) Rare Gloves Look for armour based, ideally Spiked Gloves base with +80 life, attack speed or added physical damage, as much resistance your build needs. Alternative unique : Tombfist with Enfeeble lvl 11/12 corruption. Replace Belt of the Deceive with rare belt and skip Assassin's Mark ring. Rare Boots Armour based with +90 life, as much resistance your build needs. 30% movement speed is not required as this is not a Cyclone build but it does makes gameplay smoother. *Important tips for beginner* When upgrading your gear ideally look for armour based than evasion, as it benefits the build, coloring is easier. Avoid int based armour because of socket color, int requirement. LiftingNerdBro have a great video guide on upgrading gear for beginners if you are struggling on how to.
Accessory & Jewel Explanation
Xoph's Blood Amulet Best in slot, and it is cheap in Legion. If you can't afford it use rare amulet with +60 life, critical strike chance/multi, added physical damage to attacks. Alternative unique : Ngamahu Tiki, Carnage Heart Rare Ring Diamond base with 70+ life, added phyiscal damage to attacks, resistance. The other is also Diamond base with Assassin's Mark curse on hit mod, ideally some life and resistance. Belt of the Deceiver Best corruption is +25 critical multiplier > +40% critical chance > 10% attack speed. If you use Tombfist, look for rare belt with +90 life, +200 armour, elemental resistance, +% to elemental damage with attacks. Transcendent Flesh 7% additional Physical Damage Reduction, +55% to Critical Strike Multiplier but -70 to Strength with current passive tree. If you can't afford it use Tempered Flesh but you don't get the damage reduction. For rare jewel look for +% maximum life, critical strike multiplier (sword/fire/elemental/one handed). Rare Jewel I had to get some attributes from jewel as I can't get it from gear without messing with triple balanced Wise Oak setup. Since the build only have 2 jewel sockets, use it to cover up whatever your build needs.
Amulet Anointment
Tier 3 Coordination 12% increased Attack Speed 6% increased Cast Speed +10 to Dexterity and Intelligence Black Oil | Crimson Oil | Amber Oil Other notables that grants 12% increased Attack Speed is Berserking and Lust for Carnage, but Coordination requires cheaper oils. Bladedancer 24% increased Damage with Swords 6% increased Attack Speed with Swords 24% increased Damage with Ailments from Attack Skills while wielding a Sword +1 to Melee range with Swords Crimson Oil | Amber Oil | Amber Oil All rounder damage boost and cheap. Aspect of the Lynx 16% increased Attack Damage 4% increased Movement Speed 20% increased Critical Strike Chance +10 to Dexterity and Intelligence Crimson Oil | Violet Oil | Violet Oil Another solid all rounder notable, if you need the extra stats go for this instead of Bladedancer. Tier 2 Snowforged 25% increased Fire Damage 25% increased Cold Damage +10% to Fire and Cold Resistances 30% increased Critical Strike Chance Black Oil | Azure Oil | Sepia Oil Very good notable that out of reach for this build and it is not expensive. Keep in mind that if you use Wise Oak, the extra resistance can mess with your triple balanced setup. True Strike +12% to Critical Strike Multiplier 45% increased Critical Strike Chance Black Oil | Crimson Oil | Teal Oil Combat Stamina 20% increased Armour 5% increased maximum Life Regenerate 1% of Life per second Black Oil | Verdant Oil | Clear Oil Defensive notable and quite cheap compared to other notable that grants maximum life with life regeneration. Steadfast 30% increased Armour while you have Fortify 10% increased Effect of Fortify on you 10% increased Effect of Fortify on you while Stationary Opalescent Oil | Azure Oil | Azure Oil It is not a sexy notable, but the stats it grants is incredibly rare. Tier 1 Fatal Blade 10% increased Damage with Swords 60% increased Critical Strike Chance with Swords +30% to Critical Strike Multiplier with Swords 10% increased Damage with Ailments from Attack Skills while wielding a Sword Opalescent Oil | Opalescent Oil | Amber Oil Extremely good notable that is not within reach. This is the best notable to anoint for this build in term of stats it grants and price-wise. I am surprised it doesn't cost more. Rampart 8% increased Attack Speed while you have Fortify 5% increased Movement Speed while you have Fortify 10% increased Effect of Fortify on you 20% increased Attack Damage while you have Fortify Golden Oil | Black Oil | Azure Oil Very expensive, at the time of this writing Golden Oil costs 195c. I don't recommend it for this build because of the price, it is a great notable nonetheless. So why I listed here, probably because some may ask "what about this notable"? So there you go. Disciple of the Slaughter +1 to Minimum Frenzy Charges 5% chance to gain a Frenzy Charge on Kill 5% increased Damage per Frenzy Charge Golden Oil | Verdant Oil | Amber Oil Very expensive and only go for it if you craft +1 minimum Frenzy Charge on both rings. It is not worth it in my opinion if you only have 1 minimum Frenzy Charge because of the price. Cruel Preparation 10% increased maximum Life +5% to all Elemental Resistances Silver Oil | Black Oil | Teal Oil There are seven notables that grants 10% increased maximum life and Cruel Preparation is the cheapest and not within reach. Go for it if you need the extra life. Summary Other notables not listed here like Golem's Blood or Magmatic Strike is because of high price or the stats it grants is not good enough.
Flasks Explanation
1. Diamond Flask This flask gives the most dps compared to any other flasks in my setup. If you don't have the craft, what can you do is either buy from trade or craft increased Duration then look for craft service. I recommend Vocandin, been using his service since Synthesis. 2. Sulphur Flask 40% damage, 6% life regeneration while on Consecrated Ground, 3 total flask usage perfect for Curse Immunity. Craft duration, then beastcraft "of Warding". 3. Wise Oak Very cheap this league, get the highest roll you can afford. And to maximize its potential triple balance your elemental resistance. Other alternative is to use Divine Life Flask with bleed removal. For prefix craft Panicked (25% reduced Amount Recovered/Instant Recovery when on Low Life) or Seething (66% reduced Amount Recovered/Instant Recovery). Alternative unique : Blood of the Karui 4. Basalt Flask Craft 23% reduced Charges used, not lower. At 22% it uses 31 charges so that's a no. With 23-25% it uses exactly 30 out of 60 thus allowing two usage per flask without refill. Once you get the right number beastcraft with "of Staunching" for bleed debuff removal. Beastcraft "of Grounding" for Shock Immunity if you use Life Flask instead of Wise Oak. 5. Lion's Roar Get the highest roll you can afford. Great offensive and defensive boost.
PAQ - Probably Asked Questions
1. Why you don't use 'x' gems? Melee Splash - Not needed. Explosion from Infernal Blow deals aoe damage and Herald of Ash overkill finish off surviving monster. Fire Penetration - Lower dps compared to other support gems. Herald of Purity - Better dps than Herald of Ash but overkill mechanic from Herald of Ash helps a lot when clearing. Also, Ghostflame Herald of Ash is the best looking effect herald mtx in my opinion. However this sometimes comes with a drawback against porcupine monsters when overkill damage kill them instead of Infernal Blow. Porcupines not killed by Infernal Blow shoots spines on death. Ruthless - The overall dps boost is similar to Close Combat at max distance (19 range for 49% more Damage, though Close Combat can get up to 59% within 0-15 range) but Ruthless deals inconsistent damage. The first and second strike damage much lower compared to third strike. Hit once hit hard playstyle doesn't fit Ruthless damage bonus compared to fast attacking skill. Multistrike - Same reason as Ruthless. Anger - Required double the mana reservations compared to Herald of Ash but only gain half the damage, not worth it. At least with current passive tree. Elemental Focus - Cannot ignite with this support. Blood Rage - Degen from this buff on top of Her Embrace degen hurts. 2. What about 'x' uniques? Impressence (Fire) - Not that great with this build. Require two additional socket for curse setup. Level 20 Blasphemy requires 111 int and Flammability requires 98 int, this build have 72. Cinderswallow Urn - Consumes 40 of 60 charges on use which makes this unreliable flask againts bosses when needed. Abyssus - If you don't mind getting one shot once in awhile, yeah sure why not. 3. Why no dedicated support for Ancestral Warchief? Not enough socket because of Kaom's Heart. If you don't use Kaom's Heart support Ancestral Warchief with Multiple Totems, Faster Attack, Combustion, Melee Physical Damage (5L), Ruthless (6L). 4. Can this build do 'x' content? Shaper - Easily. Uber Elder - Hard but doable. Hard because of single target skill, you can't attack and move at the same time like top tier meta skills. It is extremely hard to do it deathless, I had to respec Aspect of Carnage and take War Bringer for that (deathless challenge I set for myself) because I don't have enough life recovery without healing flask. If you don't mind death then you don't have to do that, just bring a life flask. Engineering Eternity's Uber Elder Guide. Uber Atziri - Hard and very deadly. Hit the wrong copy and you will one shot yourself. But it is doable if you know the fight well. Engineering Eternity's Uber Atziri Guide. Uber Labyrinth - Not a problem. War Bringer is extremely good against traps. Delve - Carry flares and you're good to delve. If you like to spend time delving I would take War Bringer instead of Aspect of Carnage. Timeless Domain - Yes. The build is very much capable of taking on 5 faction Legion, but if you planning to use it for farming I don't recommend it as the loot return is not as profitable as mf build. 5. Why you don't use life flask? To be honest I am not sure, maybe some sort of experiment? I dropped life flask after killing Kitava at Act 10 to see how long I can survive without it. The build is surprisingly very durable, 0 deaths until level 90 when pack of Porcupine monsters killed by overkill Herald of Ash shoots spines, this was at Forge of the Phoenix map. Then more deaths against Uber Elder. Oh well, if he dies, he dies. 6. Why Flesh and Stone? For defensive purpose. On Sand Stance, the aura blinds enemies within range, 11% less damage taken from enemies outside of the aura. Greatly improved this build survivability. 7. Why Flawless Savagery instead of Rite of Ruin? Rite of Ruin triples Rage effect and significantly boost dps output but requires having Rage at high stacks with high uptime to benefit from, with new Rage mechanic Berserker now can't sustain Rage buff as easily as he used to. The reason is because Rage is gain on hit, not on kill. Most packs dies from one strike, so against 10-20 monsters we may gain only 1-2 Rage stacks. With fast attacking skill like Cyclone or Lacerate however, this will benefits those builds greatly. Flawless Savagery is better for this build for consistent damage as we consistently crit so the buff uptime is high. To me Rage from Crave the Slaughter is just to enable Berserk usage when needed. 8. What about Avatar of Fire from passive tree? If you can't afford Xoph's Blood and want to get Avatar of Fire from the passive tree to have full fire conversion, it is a viable choice but you have to spend 5 passives points to get it. It is not worth it in my opinion. Since this build doesn't focus on fire penetration we don't exactly get much out of full fire conversion. Better spend on life or damage nodes. 9. What about Chieftain as ascendancy for the build? With Chieftain you will have better physical damage resistance through Endurance Charge generation, higher life regeneration to mitigate Her Embrace degen, ability to cover Rare or Unique enemies in Ash and converting the half physical to fire without Xoph's Blood or Avatar of Fire from passive tree thus allowing Atziri's Promise usage. Sounds good right so why not? For a start, you lose more than half dps. Yes, more than half. Chieftain at maxed buff can go up to 1.4m while Berserker can go above 3.5m. Even without Aspect of Carnage if you take War Bringer, Berserker still beat Chieftain, dealing 1.7m dps without Rage or Berserk buff. With Chieftain you lose about 1k life if you choose to get additional maximum Endurance Charge. Also, you have to spend 5 passive points to get mana leech node because you can't get mana leech for fire damage else where. Overall it is just not worth it. If this is a Tectonic Slam build or uses Nebuloch mace then Chieftain is a very strong ascendancy for it. 10. Aspect of Carnage or War Bringer? This depends on your preference. If you follow the build you lose about 600k damage if you take War Bringer. Check out my Uber Elder kill video if you want too see how the build perform without Aspect of Carnage. 11. I have some currency to spend, what can I improve and best bang for the buck? Get all the suggested item at the highest roll you can afford. Level 21/20 quality Infernal Blow and Level 21 Precision, 20/20 on other gems. Other than that, not much to improve. 12. Roughly how much this build costs? With current price (week 7 of Legion); Oni-Goroshi : 1-1.5 exalts Kaom's Heart : 100-150 chaos Enchanted delve mod helmet : 1-4 exalts (depending on your rng it may be cheaper to craft it yourself) Xoph's Blood : 80-100 chaos Rare Gloves : 1-2 exalts Rare Boots : 80-120 chaos Rare Rings : 50-100 chaos, 1-4 exalts for Assasin's Mark on hit (cheaper if you craft them yourself as the desired suffix is not hard to get) Transcendent Flesh : 3-3.5 exalts The only required item is the sword, the rest can be change depending on your budget and preference. Leveling Tips Veteran melee players can skip this part and do what suits you best. Please keep in mind these tips only serve to make leveling easier, by no means required.
Act 1
1. Before you start new character, get Goldrim if you don't have it already. Also get Wanderlust for immunity to Freeze. 2. Get Molten Strike gem from Hillock quest, use it with Ruthless. You can use Oni-Goroshi starting level 2. If the degen too much to handle use Cleave instead. 3. Upon completing The Tidal Island quest, take Quicksilver flask. Add Onslaught, Chance to Bleed and Ancestral Call Support. Remove Ancestral Call if you use Cleave. 4. After Breaking Some Eggs quest, get Blood and Sand, Ancestral Protector, Steelskin and Dash. Use Sand Stance. 5. Next get Leap Slam, Added Fire Damage and Precision. 6. Take Infernal Blow from The Siren's Cadence reward. Use Infernal Blow > Ancestral Call > Added Fire Damage > Ruthless > Onslaught > Chance to Bleed (you don't need Melee Splash). If mana cost too high, remove Chance to Bleed/Added Fire Damage.
Act 2
7. Around this time you should be around level 15-20, get Atziri's Foible. It is a great leveling amulet that can reduce stats requirement and will greatly boost your max mana and regen. 8. Next get Herald of Ash for Intruders in Black quest reward and buy Flesh and Stone after The Root of the Problem. Remove Blood and Sand from your setup. Use Sand Stance for Flesh and Stone. 9. After Sharp and Cruel quest get Faster Attack support and link it with Leap Slam and totem together. So both skills benefits from one support. Buy Melee Physical Damage, Elemental Damage with Attacks and Close Combat, link it with Infernal Blow.
Act 3
10. Upon completing Siosa's quest, get Fortify support as reward(optional). Infernal Blow > Ancestral Call > Fortify > Melee Physical Damage > Elemental Damage with Attacks > Close Combat. 11. Get Ancestral Warchief as reward for Sever the Right Hand quest and replace it with Ancestral Protector.
Act 4-Act 10
12. Get your cwdt setup when you met the gem requirement. Remember not to overlevel them more than required. Replace Steelskin with Immortal Call. 13. Use Bismuth flask if you struggle with resists, Granite Flask helps alot in early level. Make sure you have Bleed removal before going in Labyrinth. 14. You don't have to go it right away after you completed required Trial of Ascendancy. Most players will usually overlevel their character before going. As for Cruel and Merciless difficulty, complete them before act 10 Kitava. Path of Building Link Important Note : 1. The build doesn't include Rage stack calculation and Berserk. The reason is obvious, againsts Shaper it is hard to keep up Rage at high stack because of multiple immunity phases. With Rage and Berserk active dps roughly around 3.2-3.5m Shaper dps. 2. -9% to Fire Resistance from Configuration tab is for the helmet delve mod "Nearby Enemies have -9% to Fire Resistance" because pob doesn't support it. 3. Close Combat bonus damage doesn't work on pob so 59% more Damage is added in Basalt flask. From Mark_GGG; "The "up to x% more damage" stat on Close Combat support apply the full damage bonus to targets up to a distance of 15 units from you, then linearly scales down the bonus to 0 at a distance of 40 units." This build maximum weapon range is 19, at worst scenario we deal 49% more Damage with Close Combat. I also added 49% Basalt for comparison. Videos VS Tier 16 Maps & Guardians VS Shaper & Uber Elder

amax3 for pointing out that the build can save one passive point by respeccing two strength nodes above Blood Magic and spend one between Hard Knocks and Proficiency to connect it.

I'm enjoying the build so far. Curious if you think combustion is a must for leap slam & ancestral warchief, or if one could maybe swap in blood rage? I feel like the frenzy charges might be nice for feel of the build, and maybe improve effectiveness vs legion content. But I do recognize leap slamming into a group to trigger Her Embrance is powerful.

" Combustion placement is to support Ancestral Warchief against tougher bosses, Leap Slam is there to share support from Faster Attack. The reason for this is because Kaom's Heart takes away 6 potential sockets for other gems. I don't use Blood Rage because of the degen, but if you don't mind them you can use it. I would probably use Blood Rage if I have the option to toggle it on/off like my Cyclone build, but since Infernal Blow setup is used in the weapon that is not possible. |
|
" Ah sounds good. Yeah I gave it a try, and I think having the combustion is better. It added some attack speed, but didnt feel significant enough to be worthwhile. |
|
" Thank you for your feedback and glad you enjoyed the build! |
|
Wanted to ask if you will be updating this build for next league because I really want to try this build
|
|
" Hey there. Yes I will. Since the build doesn't use any league-specific drop I don't think there will be much change. Check out the changelog in the future update. Good luck. |
|
this build can be played as slayer ?
|
|
" Yes but I don't recommend it unless you really want to play it as Slayer. Although Slayer can sustain Her Embrace degen better with overleech mechanic, he deals much lower overall damage even without counting Rage stacks or Berserk buff. As Slayer you also have lower maximum life because you have to spend points to get mana leech node. If you really interested in playing as one, here is the Path of Building Level 90 Slayer passives tree, with Vaal Pact. I believe the "crab" pathing is the optimal choice here, to get Full Life overleech effect and 20% cull. For non Vaal Pact and greater area of effect, take Impact instead of Brutal Fervour. Overwhelm is a waste for this build because Oni-Goroshi already have higher base critical strike chance. Impact version Path of Building here, updated the Close Combat flasks to get Impact more damage bonus. Read the flask description for more info. Good luck with the build! |

what about oskarm gloves or tombist with warlods mark?
