It Lurks Below

If you happen to enjoy pixel rpg's, I strongly recommend checking out "It Lurks Below" from none other than David Brevik. Just came out of Early Access today and I'm really enjoying it thus far, and it looks like it could have some decent replayability.

wow a game that actually got released from early access. god damn.

yeah it looks solid. terraria meets diablo? count me in. right now im HIGHLY enjoying terraria once again until the new league...if i ever find down time between those two games i'll be picking this one up
I'm actually not much of a fan of the genre overall. I've dabbled in some games like Terraria and enjoy them to an extent, but I can never really get too deep into them. I only picked this one up because of the name attached to it, and I've definitely been pleasantly surprised.

Hate to say it but Brevik hasnt really done anything of note after D2.

Blizzard North castoffs specifically have been given reverance, for what they did 20 years ago, but man they have stretched that accomplishment far.

Hellgate London, Marvel Heroes, and now this, it doesnt really get much more than a meh outta me.

Hellgate was pretty solid...it just wasn't a good fit during that time period. It was an oddity that didn't really fit into any particular genre terribly well. Flagship also had management problems, which is what really doomed the game. Not quite on the level of 38 Studios and Kingdoms of Amalur mismanagement, but it still wasn't a good situation.

I actually still fire it up from time to time. It has a pretty healthy and active community-run server (not the Korean hacked apart and hacked back together version), and the game has held up surprisingly well over the years.

Yea both Hellgate and Marvel heroes were pretty solid games. Even the Korean version on steam right now is pretty solid since the P2W currency could be dropped.

Hellgate is really what Borderlands is it just didn't quite have all the technical power available at the time. If there wasn't management issues for that game we'd probably be calling Borderlands a Hellgate style shooter, like we call PoE a diablo style ARPG.

You guys are being pretty generous with MH and HG:L.

Both games were average at best. Maybe 65-70 out of 100. Certainly a far cry from what D2 was.

Again my point was people tend to look at Brevik and the Blizzard North guys as legends and heroes. It's a bit much imo...

Spoiler
case in point exilcon and PoE using Brevik as a consultant for China's launch

i'd assume they just want brevik on speed dial to show off being the d2 fans they are.

If the price for that is a china launch consultant and they are in the position to work that out, that's just good fortune.

:p

Diablo 2 wasn't even that great of a game. It was great for its time, perhaps; the territory being explored was relatively fresh. But it has a lot of flaws, flaws that players readily recognize in more recent games of the genre, but overlook in Diablo 2 thanks to nostalgia. Diablo clones haven't fared nearly as well as the original.
