Guests are like fish - after 3 days start stinking.

So we had some family come in from abroad and as usual expect you to pay for everything and cater to them.

Things I learned.

1. make them get own rental car
2. make them get hotel.
3. have dinner out so you and/or SO isnt doing 3 loads of dishes and cleaning till midnight

Obviously i'd give up everything for parents but im talking cousins and shit if you feel me cosign. otherwise youre lucky

Now, if you let them escape they´ll tell the others of their amazing time with you, soon you´ll have a whole flock to farm.

"Guests are allowed to do everything" is a stupid rule in certain cultures.

If you have no intention of ever visiting them so they reciprocate and they know that then yeah, you got stooged.

Can you eat them like fish?
Those refugee in europe act the same, how weird.

Consider yourself lucky that you didn't get stuck with "The guests that wouldn't leave".
Censored.
You bet. But usually they want rid of you as much as you want them gone. So I guess phasing could as easily be "visiting is like fish and starts stinking after 3 days"

There's nothing you can't fix with good seasoning.
I've tried a few different ways of shoving out unwanted guests and none of them are a silver bullet.

You can go with "kill them with kindness" by constantly hovering around them, doting on them, trying to force yourself into whatever events they have planned and they'll want to get some distance that way. Unless you run into a guest that is genuinely lonely and would love to be part of the family...

You can go with an alienation approach where you slowly ramp up your own house-weirdness. More PDAs with the wife, weird food choices, constant obnoxious in-jokes that you don't explain. They'll feel like a stranger and act accordingly, unless they were expecting to be separated from you or, worse yet, start exhibiting their own weirdness...

You can try to blow out their liver. Just drink and smoke every night, non-stop party. For the timid and introvert guests, a few days of that is enough to send them back home to get away from the crazy party relatives, but god help you if they can keep up and start pushing you outside your comfort zone...

It's kind of a fun game figuring out the kind of guest they are, and in the end you are getting to know them better. I've never had to lay down a "this is my house and you need to leave" yet, at least.
