Game of thrones thread go! [ S8 ]
" Well, Dany killed more people, and she got to die with nothing more than a quick jab of a knife. |

On a related note, how do you think the HBO execs feel?
Lol, you know, when I type HBONow into my address bar, the first thing that pops up in google search is "GoT is over: How to cancel your HBONow Subscription". I know it only cost me one month to watch these 6 episodes. I waited until Long Night, activated, watched 3, watched these 3, then canceled. You would think they would have had something ready to go after it just incase the fallout happened for a bad season. I bet they would have loved 10 episodes; especially now. They could have at least tied people on for possibly 3 months of sub. Now, with a free trial, most people not only knocked GoT out in 1, they rage cancelled out of spite, too. |

" There are good and bad ways to do subversions. Plenty of shows, GoT included, have subverted expectations, and been successful for it. Some have even had major twists saved for their endings. This season isn't bad because it did or didn't adhere to tropes, or even because it did or didn't adhere to whatever outline Martin gave D&D. It's bad because they've evidently no idea how to go about subverting expectations cleverly, or in other words cos they're just plain bad writers. A clever subversion gets the audience to spit milk initially, but then go "Ooohhhh!..." afterwards. People aren't doing that here - they're just spitting said milk (at first, they were probably just rolling their eyes by the last couple episodes), then thinking about it more, realizing it's still stupid, and then going online to write angry reviews. That's not cos the show didn't respect tropes, or the books, it's cos it had no idea how to write well. Not well by the books, but well by its own already simplified narrative.
Spoiler
Hell, there's versions of Arya killing the Night King that would've been cleverer (like using her disguises). There's versions of Bran becoming king that would've made more sense (mostly by having him actually have done something before to get all that support). There's versions of Dany going nuts and burning the city that wouldn't have seemed forced. And I'm only talking of ideas that could've fit into the same length of time (one episode usually, albeit Bran would've been interspersed across multiple), btw, as I'm no fan of the excuse that the show needed more time.

" I honestly dont even think they are that bad at writing. Season 1-4 showed that when they had some source material to draw from. They even had the wherewithal to save fan favorite characters like the Hound. If they had source material, they showed they could put something quality on screen, and even improve on it in some aspects. But once they ran out of source material, it fell off the wheels. Thats why I think GRRM needs some blame for how poorly these last few seasons were. At the very least, these guys should have been able to get together and work together in some way to avoid some of the shitshow that has happened. They are TV writers who have to get something on the screen in like a year tops. Thats written, acted, shot, CGI, everything. Thats a damn tall order when the original writer can't even write the next book in the series before the entire show is over. I honestly wonder what the bullet points looked like they had to work with. Lol, for whatever reason, I'm just imagining GRRM being like some of my old college group project members. I remember this one guy. We had a business presentation. It was a 10 page report + presentation. This guy sends me, at 11pm, 1 page with a picture on it that says, "This is where the seating will be." And was the blueprint of the room. Next page, was "This is the capacity of the building." To something of that affect I cant remember. It was another full page picture. I sent him an email said dude, thats 2 sentences, and pictures cannot be more than 2x2 inches. He says, "Damn bro my bad. I can't write reports." So of course I stayed up all night fixing it. Anyways, for whatever reason, thats what I feel like the bullet points GRRM left them were. I wonder how last minute it was, too. "Dany gets stabbed by Jon." "Jon goes back North." I'm still sticking to my opinion that GRRM deserves as much blame for these past seasons as the TV writers do. They are under a ton of pressure to get something done, while hes doing fuck all and running around like a rockstar basking in the glory of it. |

Well i know it's a matter of tastes but i felt bored during the whole ending.
I've a curse with that, most of shows i enjoyed these past 30 years had "poor" ending i assume it's not an easy task ... Will recognize this one make sense at least :) Hf :)

Unfortunately like with every other child actor you gotta throw the dice. They threw it with Sansa and won big time. Arya and Bran.........not so much.

8th serie was great. From E2 it was superb. Fantasy movie at its best.
Spoiler
Spoilers:
I wanted Cercei to be a winner. I wanted to see her cuts traitors heads off. So pitty John Snow didnt die by her will. S8 is top. End of E5 - Arya walks in the ashes and leaves city on horse - it was superb. Or when dragon queen entered her throne room... But John.. should definetely die by the will of monarch.. and be burned. :) |

Kinda curious how they revealed his heritage but did absolutely nothing with it. Its like lets confirm the most popular theory in the fandom, this should be enough, fanservice ahoy!
