Just starting out on PS4. What class for beginner?

I played this game a long time ago (see my join date) and got to around lvl 50/60 and then my PC died while playing it.

Pretty much forgot about it after until I saw it on the playstation store earlier lol

Gonna give it go on PS4 and wondered what class would be good for beginner?

For a beginner, you can pretty much play what ever you like. For at least a couple weeks you'll simply be learning the game. Melee does fine until later in the game... and even then it does fine, but just about anything else does better.

Better to play what ever style you find fun than to worry about what other people think about it.

Some basics: Use the passive tree primarily for defense... about 2/3 of your points should be spent that way. Focus on one skill over a combination of several. Learn what the words mean. They all have meaning. No word is used colloquially. It's like it was written by and for mathematicians.

Fortunately it's not hard. There's like 4 genuine melee skills in the entire game - the rest are just spells where you swing your weapon as part of the aninmation. Which isn't a bad thing really, melee really doesn't have any place in the game as it's designed.

If you want to have a chance with the Synthesis league mechanic, you need a Speed-Run-Spell-Caster.
You could take a look on the site "poe.ninja" what classes and skills are actually most used, and which you should definitivly avoid.

Then if using a controller is bad for melee then it looks like Winter Orb or Storm Brand Elementalist is your best bet. There are many build guides for these 2 skills. I would lean toward the auto-targeting of WO.

You could consider Cyclone if you want to directly beat on stuff. But sooner or later, the need to get in close, and the time required to take down big stuff will likely do you in. But it is fun while it lasts.

I'm currently using a minion build (on Xbox) - cuts down on the aiming frustrations and allows you to concentrate on staying alive (Witch).

Winter Orb build has worked great with a controller. I keep it simple with triple herald buffs, stone golem, orb of storms linked to arcane surge and culling strike, and flame dash for movement, and of course the life saving immortal call with increased duration linked to cast when damage taken.

I've breezed through the acts, and I'm in red tier maps now with no problem. It easily takes on the new league content and it's fun to play with lots of ways to customize it to your liking.

Winter Orb, brands, Summoner builds, channeling skills are easy and therefor great, but many others are good to..

Everything auto targets, you just press skill and aim towards the mob you want to hit, only problem is precise targeting a certain mob with those kind of skills is shit, so whatever you choose at least get something with aoe, or 2 skills, 1 aoe 1 single for boss.

Forum/youtube has many good builds.

I just ran cyclone pm my marauder. You're exactly right. He was great until about act 8. Then he would just get melted at every boss fight.
