Steam unable to launch path of exile (win10 new install)

I reinstalled windows yesterday and have been troubleshooting this issue:

In steam when i attempt to launch POE for a few seconds it indicates RUNNING

Then I just get the option to launch the game again

i.e. something is causing the process to crash on launch

After a lot of troubleshooting it looks like an issue with DirectX 11

My windows was fully up to date
This is also a fresh install because i just upgraded my SSD
Graphics driver up to date (nvidia software installed GTX980)
I tried deleting the config
Tried steam validation
Reinstalled steam and downloaded POE from scratch

None of these thing resolved the issue.

I started to think this was directx related and manually downloaded directx 9

After installing directx 9 and launching the game i received this error:

(apparently win10 does not install old versions of DirectX for compatibility??)

The game is now able to launch in DirectX 9 mode

If i try and change to DX11 , I get the same error.

I actually also tried manually installing DX11 but this has not resolved the issue.

My computer by default has the most current version of dx12



Not sure why my computer is having these issues its a standard windows install with drivers installed , for now I will just play on dx9 as it seems to work fine.

Just putting this here , im not sure if its some strange issue with my windows install , but i was able to find some other people who had the same issue

Did you install W10 from W7 or W8 as an upgrade? Or a new W10 medium (download from MS website https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 )? And it was not a repair or recovery installation?

(1) Please check that Windows does not have POE (Steam and or Standalone) in compatibility mode of any sorts: Path of Exile folder > 32 and 64bit.exe > Properties > Compatibility Tab.

This solved the problem (was the problem) for this user who also had the problem after a W10 install from/via a W7 upgrade.

(2) Please delete your production config ini in My Documents My Games Path of Exile.

And then force the start of the steam client exe (64bit or 32bit) with --nodx9ex https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Launch_options

Do that by creating a short cut of the exe. And add to the Target: "--nodx9ex" eg: I have 64bit steam client exe shortcut with "--nologo"

(3) Please post your DxDiag txt report via pastebin.com url document. If so far your problem persists. With Steam and Standalone client ( https://www.pathofexile.com/download )

(4) Please update your Bios from 2012 ...

(5) Can you run any other DX11/12 games? Use Google. eg

Window was installed from a microsoft boxed usb drive , not one i made myself , actually a really good purchase makes reinstall really easy
Its a fresh install on a new SSD
1) When troubleshooting i actually tried compatibility mode but no not in compatibility mode and it still can only run with dx9 not dx11

I tried all the normal stuff like run as administrator etc

2) I deleted the production config several times , and also tried using my old production config from my old disk. neither seem to make any difference
3) I prefer to use the steam client mostly because it makes my account a lot more secure
4) Im not updating my bios
5) Ive only tried warframe since the reinstall , it was working fine , not sure what dx version warframe is.

Game is working fine under dx9 for now , ill prob just do a reinstall some time.

I may also try installing some other dx11 based game to see if doing that resolves the issues

Please check if you can run Warframe in DX11. Google says you can pick (check box) DX11 for Warframe.
